Ya know, Vega is a character I haven't been interested in at all and it seems like he might be boring like Kaidan, Ashley, Liara, Tali and Jacob.....

I agree.

He seems to not like much of any squadmates besides the krogan from what I've seen. He doesn't like the human characters, because....well their humans and doesn't even want to give Vega a try. He's been like that the whole time. Makes me wonder if he even likes ME in general.

It was smart to show the actor Freddie Prinze Jr. and humanize the character, because otherwise James Vega looks like an ugly dumb ape

Shepard's eyes do kind of look like he's totally zoning out lol.

That is probably the case, to some degree: more attention on what he is hearing than on the sparring and -whoops!- *dodges barely in time*.
Maybe we should call it a "pensive" look, instead of "dead". :P

There are no facial animations at all, which leads me to believe that it simply hasn't been implemented yet to the full extend.

At least you had the guts to say it. I agree. They should've had that guy voice him "Come at me bro!", "Alright bro!"

Too bad they just didn't model him after a muscular version of Freddie Prince Jr.

It is not the fault of the designers that some people watch Jersey Shore and embrace what it spews at them, causing them to see its influence everywhere.

I am glad I have not watched it enough to make any connections by his appearance, such a shame that some people have. Or well, cannot argue over taste still.

Vega look like the new Jacob to me the only difference his White and call femsherp "Lola" instead of "the prize".
i wonder which nikname femsherp will love the most?
Jacob:"hey the priizze, come over here".
Vega:"hey lola,come over here".

Looks can be deceiving.

Vega does look like a Jersey Shore douche jarhead that Ill be competing with through out the game but I feel like the past ME's were missing that element such that Sten brought to DA:O, but was it just me or did that spar session almost look like it could be an in-game conversation? More animated squad mate interaction would be a mega plus to me.

It's entirely possible that Vega's writer(s) and/or artist(s) watched Jersey Shore to give us what we have here.  The last reality show I watched with any semblance of interest was Road Rules way back when.  I haven't watched, and will not watch, a single reality show since then.

I find it [reality television] to be crap television that network heads jumped on because of lower production costs, which also puts writers' jobs in jeopardy.

That still seems to me like a very shallow way to look at a person's physique.

Is a really thin woman who happens to wear something pink automatically Paris Hilton to you?

I would have to agree - the shallowness of people judging this character based on his looks alone is the primary reason why I avoid reading most Vega-related threads. And after seeing the usual insults hurled at Vega in here, methinks I will stick to my avoidance policy.

I have to say James convinced me as a character, and Freddie was very lively and happy bout his character I think. IMO he sold me the whole package ;)
What I DIDNT LIKE was sparring with Shep and his eyes fixed in some dead space beside Vega... will BW work on expressions and line of sight before release?

I am kind of amused by people judging characters by the very first impressions we get. I mean, its not like learning more about characters is what takes them from cliche or caricature to fully realized character or anything. <_<

Generally agreed that the animations are off though. But this is kind of par for the course for Bioware, unfortunately. DA, DA2, ME and ME2 just... aren't really good looking games in a lot of regards.

Well, it would be a pretty boring forum if all anyone ever posted was "I guess I'll have to wait until the games out before making any judgements."

To be fair, that is true. At the same time, though, people are very obviously stopping at the "Oh, he's generic space marine" line and refusing to see any possibility of depth beyond that. I just find it amusing.

WoRd!

Even if Vega is a boring space marine his role in the plotline could be something huge involving sacrifice or betrayal etc., like how I hate most Bioware lead male party members (Alistair, Carth, Atton, Kaidan) but they all managed to earn a special place in my heart, well except Kaidan.
