Weapon mod?

I think that would be a great way to re-introduce the old school ME1 system in the game.  Although, as Chris said, it isn't in the game.  Maybe if they do more weapon DLC this could be something they could work on to satisfy the fans of the overheat system?

Just a thought.

You know what, that's even better than what I just suggested. Horry for infinate ammo weapon mods. Perhaps you get it late in the game.

Absolutely!  I mean, there's a ton of stuff that they could do to balance out how it would affect gameplay.  Like you said, maybe finding it late in the game, or some things I was thinking of would be to nerf the damage the weapon does or maybe making it take up more than one upgrade "slot" (ie: it takes up two upgrade spaces instead of one, effectively counting as two "upgrades").  I'm not sure what all they'd have to do to tweak the engine to get it working right.  Too bad at this point it'd have to be DLC of some kind, but I know if they included it in a weapon pack or a weapon upgrade pack, it'd be something I'd drop a few bucks on.

or a combination of a litle less damage and Less RPM this would reduce the temperature and alow the heatsink the vent the generated heat.

But seriously, normal shooter fans? I've never really understood these arguments. And I haven't played a shooter since Bioshock 2 and I dunno how Thermal Clips are a step back.

I've figured that the game was balanced around Normal, so it seems that it was not forecast that players could run out of shots. And you only really run out if you camp in one spot like we could in ME1, and not be careful with our aim.

If the pickup rate was better in ME2 and the overheat sound played when the gun was hot, I doubt there would have been so much grief about them.

I mean in ME2, shooting is practically optional for Adepts, Engineers and Sentinels. And Infiltrators have Incinerate. Then Vanguards use shotguns which had a solid pickup rate.

So only the soldier class was out of luck with certain loadouts if no points are used in Concussive Shot or certain BP powers. Or if Infiltrators only want to use a Sniper Rifle exclusively.

Oh yeah.  I mean, if this is something the devs want to try to give a go, I'll leave the specifics to them, but it never hurts to give them suggestions!  Although I guess technically I shouldn't have called it an "upgrade", as it would in effect be a downgrade to the old system Posted Image

But a downgrade that it seems more than a few people want!  Bioware devs, please take notice!

Oh man, is "I haven't played a shooter since BioShock 2" a relatively appropriate measurement of time now? I haven't played one since Halo 1... haha.

Why are thermal clips being called "ammo" in the game now? Bioware, you're that desperate for that mindless shooter pew-pew crowd?

Oh, how exciting - nitpicking at terminology because we're not getting the mind-numbingly easy to use ME1
weapons back. This is the way to win an argument! *sarcasm*

I'm glad thermal clips are still in and that I have to actually manage my resources instead of sitting on my butt while hiding behind a crate/wall/rock, just waiting for my weapon to cool down. That's assuming that there was even any downtime with my fully modded Spectre pistol (which included the ridiculously overpowered Frictionless Material mod). Thermal clips make combat more challenging as far as I'm concerned, and I'd rather have this than a repeat of ME1 where I can pretty much have zero overheating and what amounts to infinite ammo.

Right on.  I mean, I'd love for the devs to at least give this a try for implementation as DLC or something.  If it's something that won't work due to having to make some major changes, that's cool, as I can live with the thermal clip system.

And I guess I shouldn't refer to it as an "upgrade" as it would in effect be a downgrade to the old system, lol!  But it seems to be a downgrade more than a few people would like to have as an option!  So, Bioware devs, please take notice!  Those of us that prefer the old overheat system would appreciate you seeing if this is something you could implement without too much trouble (as a DLC, of course.  I'm sure we all realize it's a bit too late to get it in the vanilla game).

Edit:  Crap, my first double post!  The first reply never showed... *sigh*

if you realy think about in theory camping should still work just stay were you are and wait for your termalclip to cool down and re use it. it says nowere that the things are broke after they are full

you could call it weapon mod like in ME1

Yeah, it's not, I don't know how to think about counter points for the shooter fan this and that, so brain fart? And then I just left it in my post =].

It does seem like it could get a bit annoying.

I really hope it doesn't beep after every shot with the Widow.

True, but some possible problems I see with this would be re-integrating the heat meter (may not be necessary, but they would at least have to slow down the reload time) and then the thermal clip ejection animation.

Truth be told, I could deal with the animation and a slower reload time as that would effectively get the gameplay portion back, but I could see where this would be one of those issues where it "breaks people's immersion".

Edit:  Or, maybe they could make it work as an ammo regeneration and you can't shoot the weapon until the clip counter is filled back up?  Just doing some out loud thinking here...

My impression, is that the gun is warning you to load a clip, so the sound could only be playing if you pull the trigger when at zero.

That's not any help because the idea is to replace the sound in the game.

That could be fun, with the windows error sound : )

but I'm on the 360, so it'll have to be like an Options menu feature, for me to play around with stuff like that.

If replacing the sound file works then any sound file with no sound will fix it, but in my mind, Shepard pulling the trigger while aiming a dangerous ennemy then "windows error sound" ... awsome epique fail ...

That would be funny, to get the windows error noise, but the atmosphere in ME is just so awesome I'd hate to mess with it.

I am pleased with the return of the overheat sound as opposed to the *CLICK* ME2 guns make. Which made no sense, as they did not have a hammer and pin firing mechanism. Might have been the trigger, but still seemed inappropriate.

I prefer gun noises or better still, laser gun noises. Anyone remember the noises that guns make in Starwars?

As for overheating weapons. Well if they do it, I'm okay with it, if they don't I'm not bothered. If it's a mod, I probably only use it for one weapon.

You sir are correct and one of the devs officially confirmed this (it's somewhere in 57 pages of GTTV video discussion).

Anyone else here only use their Assault Rifle in Mass Effect 1? At least with the Thermal Clips you had to mix up your weapons, that's why I prefer it over the heat system of the first game.

Spamming the AR/pistol is a time-honored tactic. Means you can dump more points into other powers.

This, Kudos to you, great argument.

I also used only AR in ME1, there was absolutely no point in doing something else. And in ME2 i had to switch quite often to sniper rifle or shotgun.
