My Dad pretty much acts like a hipster. He hates anything popular wether it be music, film, literature, tv shows etc.
And refuses to watch anything past the 80's. Sometimes I just laugh at his narrow minded view.

I really don't care for grouping people and as for myself I just do things my own way.

That's not being a hipster. Hipsters sneer at everything and know nothing.

Your father is mature. He avoids drivel and garbage (everything made since the eighties) and enjoys the good. That just means he is a man of maturity and taste.

There's plenty of good movies, music, and video games that have been made since the 80s.

Um, the 1986 Transformers beats the hell out of any of Micheal Bay's crap.

Now who's being the hipster. That is pretty ignorant statement to make, putting everything into one basket
True not every film being released is an instant masterpiece and not every band making music these days is the best in the world but you just have to learn to find the gold among the dirt. He just refuses to even try anything new. This is what I despise the most, people who are so stuck in the past that they do not accept anytihhng the modern world  has to offer.

I don't see anything ignorant about sarcasm. <_<

Perhaps your father just hasn't seen anything that he is interested in, that aligns with his particular tastes. "Popular" does not necessarily mean good, so perhaps you should show him some critically acclaimed, but less popular, works and see what he says.

People call me a hipster...
But I dont really hate mainstream things, I just prefer to express my individuality through my interests. But Im not a hipster in the slightests, People who conform to an ideal that is nonconformity are irritating, and fake.

That's also called being a snob. I'm pretty confident that hipsters do not have a monopoly on it.

lol. Your avatar suits you well.

Although I rarely would identify myself as an intellectual... they are generally far too liberal for my test.

We live in a world where people don't want to be associated with a term that, by its very definition, means "person of high intellect."

I care not for theory. I care for application. ;)
