I watched that featurette and was just starting to like him, but I think some of these nicknames he's making up are a little goofy.

I think that might be their intent, ME hasn't really had a comic relief character like Oghren or Varric from DA. They probably decided to make him somewhat goofy (which was what Caroline Livingstone said in the show about him) in order to provide some comic relief in between the heavy/dark nature of the narrative.

Sorry, I mean it seems a little forced but since I haven't played the game I can't really tell. I have no problem with him being goofy, I just never liked when a character assigns these arbitrary nicknames to characters.

A lot of things sound forced if you just hear the dialogue reads without context. I'm sure once we get to know the character ourselves it will make a little more sense.
