Hasn't that character been overused in Bioware games though? That Twilek from KotoR, Liara, That elf girl from DA2. it's like the second biggest archetype next to "gruff sociopathic mercenary."

Agreed , also especially in anime.

The issue is that she was always a badass, but they gave her a contradictory personality that absolutely never fit her power or standing.  They made her out to be some socially retarded cave dweller that just turned 16.  Even if she chose to distance herself from society, she wouldn't have turned out like the way she was portrayed in the first game.

In Mass Effect 1, she was the socially awkward swooning bookish girl nerd bait. That was her character.

The change into action-girl occured at a distinctly later point. Badass Liara was a later addition, not a constant.

They could easily do another round of fanservice (if that's the name) and please both groups of gamers.

She's as much of a kid as a 25 year old is to a 60 year old. Liara is basically an adult. Even a 60 year old Asari talk about moving out of her parents house.

They certainly could have. But they decided not to.

Although if compare their lifespan with ours, relative progression will tell us that she is somewhere around 11 y.o.
Just kidding.

The correct archetypal term you are looking for is "innocent". And yes, BioWare has used it many times before.

Liara said others consider her no more than a child. She never said she thought of herself as a child. Also comparing the lifespan to ours don't necessarily compare actual physical and mental maturity.

That same Asari on Illium actually seemed to be attempting to join the Eclipse. Of course that would be to you like a 5 year old human kid joining a mercenary gang. <_<

Fact is Liara is an adult.

Didn't m.aethyta at the eternity bar say something like most asari in their youth now just want to join a mercenary group or be dancers/strippers.

Actually that picture is old.. her updated ME3 look is with dark lips.. very similer to LotSB style but not quite as black... Her ME3 look it beautiful IMO. I never really liked the bright pink lips.. Now they're not black like LotSB but dark and very similar.. her skin also looks more natural aswell as her eyes.. IMO I think Liara looks better this way then with a bunch of make-up.

Image IPB

the dark makeup looks much better imo. The light pink doesn't go with her skin tone. Dark blue and purple fit much better

There is no different/dark makeup in this screenshot - it's just that the lighting in general is darker.

I don't have a problem with her appearance. I just prefer her to wear the green outfit she wore in ME1.

I'd like to once again point out that asari ages do not scale linearly with human ages. A 106 year old asari is not equivalent to a 10-11 year old human. A 60 year old asari is no where near the same as a 6 year old human.

I think the characters should look however the concept designers and writing teams feel is appropriate to their individual character.

I also would like to imagine that a century or so into the future that female individuals (and extra-terrestrial species with equivalent physiological traits) will be permitted to choose their own attire, make-up, hairstyles, and other aspects of their appearence without it being subject to the approval, disapproval, or random commentary of people on the extranet.

Should Liara consult our Shepard on which lipstick we would prefer her to wear before each mission? I suppose we could have a radial menu with each primary, secondary, and tertiary color..

If I was speaking in Elcor, then that last bit would be prefaced with the a notation of "Unrestrained Sarcasm" in case it is less than obvious.

So... we are complaining about her lipstick? Just another day on the BSN.

Before BioWare decide to change it can I just say... I like it.

Sure, but it isn't like they are moving her towards a underused character type.  It is one cliche to another.  On the bright side for the innocent flower types people probably still have Tali which is probably why her persoanlity changes so they would not double down on one personality type.  I'll be more interested to see what differentiates her personality from Ashly's.

Liara's inability to let things go is one major difference.
