I've watched Gundam Wing and most of Gundam Seed, although it's been so long I can't remember a whole lot. I don't remember if I liked Seed much but I thought Gundam Wing was great at the time.

I do remember Gundam Wings opening and closing since they're the first Japanese ones I ever saw on the dubbed animes that played on the cartoon network here.

So. Just popping up to say my first real "test" of the dub for KlK should be coming up soon! I think I might have mentioned (or at least tried to, cause who can stay coherent with how amazing it is *_*) that my very favorite point in the series is the end of 17 and all of 18, but the close second is 11. The site I usually stream from has the dub up to 10, so it's coming up soon. I've rewatched the point from when Nui first shows up til the end quite a few times, so the dub is going to get its chance to try and impress me since there will be: 1) Nui, 2) Ragyo saying more than just a sentence and 3) Ryuuko's snapping at the end.
 
I didn't mention it earlier, but thank you Reezy for giving your impressions on it so far. I'm pretty much set in my ways that I know it will never overtake the original version (which the casting was perfect on imho), but knowing that it doesn't make me twitch is nice enough. Amusingly enough, they got a handful of folks from the PMMM dub for this one, but the latter is something I have systematically scrubbed from my brain cause I accidentally heard it once and no.

Let me know what you think of Ragyo! You're the only one who gets my love and bias towards Romi. If you give me the OK I'll know it's fine to check out.

And yeah, I refuse to watch the PMMM dub. I can't even say it's bad because I'm not willing to risk soiling my perfect series to find out

Wing is good if you are a little kid.

 

But even as a little kid you can still see the bad parts.

 

So yeah Wing is bad but at least it was the first Gundam to have an all gay cast.

 

Seed is super bad tho.

 

 

As for PMMM dub I never gave it a watch but even if it is bad or whatever I don't see how it can soil the series for ya.

 

Bad dubs are only bad dubs.

Its pretty subpar, but there are a few moments that I actually thought were better than in the original, just because of the delivery.

Tone is indeed important so I TOTALLY get you there. Not wasted a single second on the dub and it seems like it's something that I'll avoid. That and hearing anyone else than Ai Nonaka voice Kyoko might genuinly kill me and death is bad, very bad!

I can't watch Gundam ZZ without hearing Franky coming out of Judau.

 

Also can't watch for all the other real problems it has.

I'm just glad that I'm not the only person in this forum that has watched Gundam. I kept getting "never heard of it" from a lot of people.

 

Still though, I hope they continue upon the Cosmic era. 

 

Oh, and does anyone noticed some characters from Code Geass mirror their SEED and SEED Destiny counterparts?

Kallen/Lunamaria. Both are red ace pilots who pilot red Knightmare frames/Mobile suits. They get upgraded to the Guren MK. II/Impulse Gundam. They also have feelings for the main character (Lelouch/Shinn) and wear red unifroms. They are also red haired and blue eyed.

 

Suzaku/Kira. Both are against war but fight nevertheless. They pilot more advanced mechs than everyone else (Lancelot and Strike Gundam) and been through three mechs.

Lancelot Albion.

 

Gundam mobile suits-Kira

 

GAT-Strike

ZGMF-Freedom

They both are discriminated against (Suzaku for being a number and Kira for being a Coordinator), are tan skinned and brown haired. 

 

Euphema/Lacus. Both are so similar that Euphema before the end of season one was called "Lacus clone." Both are pink haired, blue eyed, gentle, peaceful loving, and fall in love with the ace pilot of the series. 

 

And so things as well. 

They were making a theatrical Gundam Seed film where Kira, Athrun and Shinn would all be a part of ZAFT. The writer got cancer and the put it on hold, I doubt it is still happening because its been about 4-6 years without word on it.

Geth: I know friend, I seemingly go back into post hiding for a while. But hey, if I BS enough for 30 posts I'll finally hit 1,000 despite being here since before DAO was released. :')

 

I really did try to give the dub a shot (which says a lot because you can ask poor Isi, I five hour speech about Chiwa on a regular basis and no one should have to put up with it), at least in that I watched a dub trailer and as I mentioned, the witch fight that is pretty much where the series dug itself into my heart. Kyouko felt very... off to me and I'm very fond of Ai's work in the main series, so try it at your own discretion Rah. Really though, I couldn't make the case *without* being the most biased person on the planet, because for me the original casting is perfect. The tone change point is mostly just an assumption I'm making, I know it isn't exactly fair but it kind of pokes at my brain quite a bit. I'll probably slip down into spoilers just to be safe:

From what I've heard of Madoka's dub, I'm not entirely sure one of my personal favorite points in Aoi's acting will sound as good. Yes she has a higher(ish not overly but still noticeable compared to the rest of the cast) tone in the Japanese version as well, but the point I'm referring to is right before she makes her final wish, where she's attempting to calm Homura down from giving into despair and her tone takes on a form that I can really only explain by wording it as it shows how much she's matured through the 12 episode run.

 

I suppose I find it curious because dub Madoka is doing dub Mako in KlK. I personally wasn't all that geared up for Christine's go as Madoka from what I heard, but I'm more than willing to give her a shot as Mako. Again, bias as they come really, so never expect a purely objective standpoint when it comes to me discussing the PMMM cast.

ZZ is getting dubbed as is another Gundam series whose name escapes me at the moment. It was announced just the other day

Huh. That explains why I've seen a handful of Skull Girls and PMMM crossover stuff. This is why Geth is our mascot, folks. Because he makes those sorts of ??? oddities make sense. :3 (Yes I know, him and Sim are going to have to wrestle to be our mascot but their tsundere relationship warms my heart enough as it is. )

Steins;Gate is cool. Pretty solid show with nice twists and such. Gets better as it goes along.

Bad dubs are only bad dubs.

Because PMMM is perfect and I don't want to see imperfections connected to the main work.

Sort of similar to what I said about endings (I've had people say they don't understand how a bad ending can ruin a series for me) and it's because a story works with all its parts as a whole. When one aspect isn't good it can drag the rest down. Most stories I'm willing to make some exceptions for (I can't think of any other dub I outright refuse to watch) but not my PMMM *_*
