I think you might like the 3rd show, Digimon Tamers. The writing for the show was done by Lain's writer, so Tamers can be really interesting at times.

He also wrote episode 13 of Digimon Adventure 02. That episode had a bigLovecraftian feel to it, he wanted the show's main plot to be like that but Toei more or less said "kids don't like dark stuff".<_<

Anything above five points in your list I love. Except for lovely complex - dumb characters are a real turnoff.

You should check out Texhnolyze and just for the heck of it, Haruhi Suzumiya (I'd vouch for the dub as the ONLY dub that's worthwhile in all anime). I'd figure Texhnolyze would be 7-10 and Suzumiya 4-6 (or I rather don't have a good guess, that's why I recommend it altogether ).

edit: Oh, and Neon Genesis Evangelion & Paranoia Agent of course. I'd guess PA is a 7 in your terms. (though you didn't like FLCL, so maybe PA will not be so big on you?).

I'm really looking forward to your assessment of EVA though.

edit: also, Black Lagoon (7?), Baccano! (6-7?), .hack/SIGN (7/8?), Ergo Proxy (a 6 maybe), Gantz (prolly a 2 in your book, but I loved it), Ghost in the Shell original movie (1995) (a 9 or a 10, just maybe?), Berserk (8-10), Ghost Hound (a 6 or 7), the first Dragon Ball (really don't know what you'll think), Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei (I'd guess it will rate high), Mari+Holic (a 5 or 6 maybe), Gurren Lagann (7?), Kare Kano (5 or 6?), Legend of Escaflowne (I'd hope for a very high score), Noein (6?), Scrapped Princess (6?), Air Gear (a 3? I loved it though), Showa Monogatari (2-5?), Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto (6/7).
Finally, Pugyuru! (maybe a 3? or a 2? it's a 8 in my twisted book though)

^ Totally agree with you there.

Though I usually love the 12 per season episode count. The more seasons the better if the format allows for it - but overall, masterpieces have been either 13 or 24 episodes.


@Ragin - well, I did do an account there once, and updated it somewhat. 3 years ago. But it shortly became too much of a hassle to even put a score there after an anime. It was either I'd not rate most anime I've seen, or take too much of my time thinking about how to rate a second class anime.

I prefer short (Ga-rei Zero) and regular (Toradora) to long format (Dragonball Z). Like you said, the plots absorb me much quicker, and usually create stronger emotional connections than long format do for me. I will say though, finishing a short format anime feels like losing a friend ;-;

That's why it's best when the 12-13 episode animes have multiple seasons like ZnT

I got all four seasons and I stopped just before the last episode of season two because I couldn't handle it anymore.

I loved it all (except season three is not as good as the rest). Def in my top 3 favorite anime OAT.


ALSO! The S2 finale is probably my favorite episode.

Simply used this tutorial and changed a couple of minor stuff in the layout to make it look less clunky.
