If I made a list it would never end, so I am just going to say my favorite character is Nausicaä from the manga, not the movie.
Now the worst anime I have seen? Far too many to list.
@eroeru What bothered you about Kaiji? I mean it's not as good as the manga or Nobuyuki Fukumoto's Kurosawa but Kaiji(the anime) is still great.

The Phantom Troupe(from Hunter x Hunter) and my favorite is the leader...
Chrollo Lucilfer
An intelligent and charismatic leader of a gang of thieves(and killers), yet he cares for them and they care for him. Much more interesting then the stupid "black and white" badguy groups from Naruto or Bleach.
Next the Shichibukai(from One Piece), many of the members come and go but my favorite would have to be...
Donquixote Doflamingo.
These few panels should speak for themselves on why I like him.
Also I have another favorite from them, but this one is no longer with the Shichibukai...
Sir Crocodile.
A great villain. When he kicks you down to the worst moment of your life... He will mock you, then he will kill you.

Well, what I had in mind were all sorts of groups that are as narrowly defined as possible and are such in the lore of the anime itself - not something you'd have to think up. For example, the captains in Bleach is a subgroup, as is the crew of Luffy - though in the latter case I think it's a bit more important to specify the arc (the crew does make some changes as the story goes?). Yet Ichigo doesn't apparently belong to any group - maybe err, well the "renegade main-characters shinigamis" or something. Still, I'd say it's preferrable that these types of things not be thought up.
But it's interesting that often groups that are secondary in importance are loved - these are very often the villains. Like the Espada. Or Angels. Or better yet The Phantom Truope or Shichibukai.
Those were awesome picks by the way - and they did give a better picture of the show and what was likable.

Well out of Luffy's group, the Strawhats, I of course like all of them but my favorite is without a doubt Luffy. Because he is, for lack of a better word, a badass. His views of what it means to be a pirate are strong ones, that get challenged by all sorts of people but he never gives up and never takes anyone's crap.
Oh by the way the Strawhats don't make that many changes in the crew, they get more members(duh) but nobody leaves the crew for good. Well there was Vivi but she was only a Strawhat at heart, the crew would have taken her in, but she was princess ffirst and foremost.
Oh and not all of the Shichibukai are villains, three of them have helped Luffy as allies. The Phantom Troupe are "villains" but I would not say they are "evil", Chrollo just does what he does because he can. He gets the Troupe to steal impossibly well protected objects only to get bored with them and sell them (even though he doesn't need the money), and sometimes they steal them again later. And he wouldn't care if he were to die the next day.
The reason villain groups are cool is because villains are cool, so what happens when there are a lot of villains together? Awesome stuff.

Yeah one of the Shichibukai even lost the title because he more or less was on Luff'y's side. Shichibukai are former pirates who allied themselves with the World Government in exchange for their bounties being rescinded and a large degree of autonomy in their dealings. The Shichibukai and the World Government betray each other a lot though.
But the thing that I like about the Troupe is the fact that they are not "evil" in the normal shonen manga sense.
Kurapika vs Uvogin(from the Troupe) is a great fight, well thanks to how hax Kurapika is with the eye boost it was more of a slaughter than a fight, which I think was the point. The end is my favorite part about the entire scene. The violence is not glorified even by Kurapika himself. Without any context or dialogue, one might be lead to believe that Kurapika was the villain.
I love that it's not clear-cut like: here's the villains you will hate them because they are terrible and here's the hero, you will love him because he is good. Instead it's just a really interesting story with interesting characters who have all sorts of interesting motivations. And that's really awesome.
