What? You mean a horribly androgynous Mary Sue child with super-powers fighting a grown man isn't enough of a reason to deslike it?

So he/she is androgynous, so am I when I shave.=]

How is Kurapika a Mary Sue? He has Nen powers yes, so does Uvogin your point?

The point of the fight was that it was a more of a slaughter than a fight. And it did well at that. I don't see how anyone could "deslike" it if they know the series and what the series does

Bleach is a good anime.

...if you stop at the SS arc, which it should've done honestly. I agree with you that pretty much everything that comes after that is total bull****.

Also have no idea what that picture is. Image IPB

Top three perfect scores in no particular order: FLCL, EVA, Paranoia Agent.

Other two could be GITS (1995), Clannad, Kanon, Baccano!, Honey and Clover, Escaflowne, Dragon Ball, Ergo Proxy or Death Note. I'm probably missing some, but well, there are too many that need weighing to bother.

Alrighty, I'll arrange a normal list for you.

1. Paranoia Agent
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion
3. FLCL
4. Clannad
5. Ghost in the Shell (1995)

But what about top tens? For this I needed to use my brain a bit more to produce:

6. Kanon
7. Dragon Ball
8. Legend of Escaflowne
9. Honey and Clover
10. Death Note

But if it were a top list in animation as such, then first place would be Yuri Nordstein's Tale of Tales, second place his Hedgehog in the Fog, third place something by Priit Pärn (I grew up on that stuff! - though most of it doesn't translate well into other cultures), fourth place this (!!!).

Then would come all the proxies and lil' sluggers.

When it comes to art style nothing beats Mushishi and Ergo Proxy, to me.

Hmm. Art style, huh?

Ergo Proxy is great. But I'm more gladdened by Tatami Galaxy, Katanagatari, or even the classic GITS (1995). Also, Berserk is godlike in art (talking about the manga first and foremost).

If you look like a woman when you shave, you got a problem. Even mroeso if you also sound like a woman.

1) A rule is established that appleis to everyone - no one can master more than 1 "school". Excpet a suepr-special snowlake who cna master them al. Sue characteristic
2) A Sue is perfect and curbstomps.
3) A Sue is visuall distinct. Most common are strange/exotic eyes.
4) Not only can he/she master everything, he/she can also heal and bloc kother peopel from using their power (also unheard of)
5) Chains are invisible, therefore you canot feel them either when they touch your skin?

Ya..there isn't a single reason for me to like that character or the fight.

I mean - we have already logn established that you and I don't exactly share taste in anime. Especially shonen anime.
Do we really have to get ito this every single time I express dislike of an anime you worship?

I prefer more subdued and realistic style, so yes. Ergo Proxy looks good. (but it's too pretentious and mind-frakked for my tastes)

ART STYLES I LIKE:
Cowboy Beebop, Escaflowne (series and movie), SS: Lsot Canvas, Original SS, City Hunter (movie), Planetes, Monster, Ergo Proxy, Titaniya, Legend of Galactic Heroes, etc...

ART STYLES I HATE:
Code Geass, all other SS series (Inferno, hades, elysium, Omega), Klanaad, etc... .. One Piece (kinda-sorta)

Mr deer Mad Hanar, you are lucky you only watch the anime... Because the manga with it's "cool designs" has a big problem, Kubo is a very lazy artist to the point where there is almost no backgrounds and very little speech bubbles in the chapters. No it's not a style choice.

At least it lives up to it's name....

Like someone poured bleach on the managa and erased most of it.

The people in Ergo Proxy cry so much. There's at least one tear scene per episode.

...it's better than yelling a lot though.

Androgyny doesn't mean a man looks and sounds exactly like a woman. That Hunter X Hunter character does not sound exactly like a woman.

For a man to be androgynous it means he has more feminine features than usual. How is this a problem?

First pic in google images on "androgyny".

Now please explain me how this guy, or anyone born with intersex-like features has problems.

As for manga, it'd would probably look something like this:

1. Lone Wolf and Cub
2. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
3. Hoshi no Samidare
4. Great Teacher Onizuka
5. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
(Yotsuba&!, Onani Master Kurosawa, BLAME!)

Thet character looks and sounds like a woman.
I actually thought "he" was a girl in disguise, pretending to be a boy (very poorly I might add).

Well, yeah. What I meant is that it isn't necessarily a girl's voice. That type of voice is often used in anime, and it's sufficiently believable as a boy's (though yeah, I reckon the seiyuu is a woman).

But again, aside with the fact that you dislike kids fighting in these animes. What's wrong with androgyny? Is it too cliche'd or what do you think really?

I'm not sure if it counts as 'art style', but i've started to appreciate the CGI anime films. I think I've mentioned a few of them before, but I recently got around to watching appleseed and can safely say that I prefer the extra realism/depth of field to the vehicles/mechs and environment that such techniques convey. It does make the characters stand out a little oddly (since they're usually drawn in a more conventional approach) or look a little stiff (if they try to use CGI on them), but I can usually overlook such things since I'm too busy admiring the scenery.

It's unfortunate that the plot and character development in most of these types of films seems to suffer (I suppose they're too busy making everything look fancy).

Anyway, my updated list of these 'CGI' anime includes:
  • Appleseed
  • Appleseed Ex Machina (which I'm going to watch tonight)
  • Starship Troopers Invasion
  • Vexille
  • Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker
  • Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
  • Final Fantasy: Spirits Within
  • Berserk: Egg of the King
  • Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone
  • Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance
  • Ghost in the Shell (to some extent)
  • (Sky Blue) Wonderful Days (haven't actually watched it yet)
They vary in the amount of CGI used (starship troopers, vexille, and the two final fantasy movies use CGI characters whereas the others use a bit more of a mix), but there's a certain similarity with all CGI animes.
I may have missed some out (I think ergo proxy might have actually used a fair amount of CGI but I can't really remember), and a few berserk and evagelion films are still coming out, but I think that's the gist of what I've watched.

The western animation style is also pretty much all CGI nowadays as well, but it's considerably different and I won't go into it.

It's really interesting that the once "hard-core" hand-drawn ones like Berserk and Eva would do CGI. But they've convinced me. Even if it's not as "true" I think, these and GITS have proven to me that there is more use to CGI than I might have expected.

But I'm a bit doubtful as whether Berserk and such took CGI in, in merit of the "art-style" - they've wanted to do massive scenes, and CGI is simply more effective and less costly that way.

Yet it is awesome to look upon. Even if there's less of the "human factor" in it.

Oh, so you think people being androgynous is a problem? Wow that is stupid.

Kurapika can't "master" all schools or types of aura whenever he feels like it, he only gets 100% in all six types whenever his eyes become scarlet and he becomes a Specialist... And that only happens when he sees a member of the Phantom Troupe.

And with that said, all of his attack abilities only work on the Phantom Troupe. He made a "Vow" that his chains would be more powerful on the Troupe members, if he used it on anyone who isn't a member he would die.

So yeah he is god-like when he fights the Phantom Troupe, anyone else who is strong? He is weak then.

As for the other stuff you said. Who said Kurapika is perfect? How you look has almost nothing to do with being a Sue, a Sue is personalty(being perfect) and how other characters view them(view them as perfect).

Who said stopping people people from using their aura was unheard of? Kurapika used In on the chains and Uvo only felt them when it was too late.

And I said "I don't see how anyone could "deslike" it if they know the series and what the series does". Hey look! You don't know anything about the series and you make foolish comments about it, I was right!

Also who said I worship the anime? I mean the manga is one the best things to come out of WSJ, but I have had some problems with it. I only get into stuff like this when people make stupid comments.

On a similar note:

Who's your fave anime(-like) androgynous and gender-ambiguous character?

My fave would be Momiji from Fruits Basket, or that evil guy in Escaflowne. Edward from Cowboy Bebop has also great character to him/her (don't remember if it was cleared up by the end).

And if games count, Leo from Tekken. She's pretty.

My favorites are...

Image IPB

Alluka(from Hunter x Hunter). She's a transgender female. Biologically male, but of the female gender. Killua is the only one in his family to refer to Alluka as his sister; Illumi and Milluki call Alluka their "brother."

Image IPB

Bon Kurei(from One Piece). A true friend! Okama way!

Image IPB

Edward is Edward.
