I was curious if any of you all have watched Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis? I picked it up a few weeks back, and it's pretty good so far.

Been awhile since I last posted, due to busy hours at work, and finally got the chance to catch up with F/SN: UBW.

 

Yeah, Chewin pretty accurately summarized my viewpoints on the recent episode. Will add that I'm really digging Shirou and Rin as a character, but I hope the show takes a step back from them both and gets to focus on Saber and Archer as well. So far they have only had some spectacular action scenes but as far as characterization goes, they have barely been touched upon. Archer has now for three consecutive episodes seen standing on a rooftop and I hope we get some dialog or more action from him. Saber was I think introduced to easily into Shirou's life. At first he was kinda bewildered, but eased rather easily and could use more dialog on their part as well. 

 

These last episodes have been good on Shirou and Rin, would be glad to see more focus on Saber and Archer from now on.

Aye, even if Saber has been prominent for two shows I do find it vital that UBW manages to capture the essence of its characters, especially considering UBW is much like a working sequel for Fate/Zero (they added some original content to UBW afterall to make this more clear).

Fate route already did that. At the end of Fate she at last finished what she wanted to do after taking Rider(zero) and Shirous words to heart. UBW and HF focus much more on Shirous powers and his ideal, Rins growth as a mage and her familly, Archer and his true identity and the holy grail.

 

Rin is the heroine of UBW, not Saber thus Rin will get more screentime by default. The other aspect of UBW is Shirous power/ideal and Archer. Sabers screentime will be limited until the last few days of the route(which will still be a decent enough number of episodes) This is because UBW and HF have alot of characters intertwined into the story then Fate did so some DO get the end of the rope.

I wouldn't worry. Ufotable initially had plans to adapt the Fate route, partly for it to work as a sequel for Saber, but when the decided to adapt UBW instead fans were naturally wondering what level of role Saber would have, to which they stated that she will be a major character in the show and that fans won't be disappointed, but it will focus more on Archer and Rin. They got the original writer for the VN abord to work on original content for the show, so we'll see how it turns out.

Speaking of Fate, and correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Illya around 18 years old? She was born 8 years before the 4th Holy Grail War and 10 years has passed since the events and lead to the 5th War. So why the hell does she look like a 12 year old? I'm confused.

Taiga is a small character in every route, her importance comes from the Tiger dojos though and she's really only big now because when they had to do the Carnival phantasm OP, they needed 5 females for each side or poor Hisui would be by herself, she's not an unofficial heroine like Illy is but she's bigger then back when the VN came out.

You and me both. That Good ending was so much worse than the true ending. Normal HF ending on the other hand was actually good.

Huh, been years since I last read the VN so completely forgot about that.

Ah well, we'll see what Ufotable has in store for us. I trust they will deliver a geat experience and I am confident they know what they are doing.

I personally care very little whether said character is prominent or whatever their role were in the particular route in the VN. It is vital for Ufotable that they managed to incorporate necessary characterization and importance on said individuals part to stand alone in the show without any knowledge on previous installments.

I am a fan of Saber as much as the next person and since apparently UBW has set itself as a sequel of sorts, for it to be a functional one it needs to implement certain elements that it established in Zero on her part as well. I don't know what role she has nor do I see it a necessity that it has to be a prominent one, but when it comes to Saber I will be content as long as the show takes time to reflect and develop upon what Zero put into motion.

So far I have been enjoying UBW for a lot of reasons, it has already taken into account several causes and aspects and has been nuanced in its approach so far and I hope they keep developing on them further (along with other factors that I've mentioned previously will be taken into consideration), which several members have assured me it will. I don't know how varied the routes are but if they are that different that they leave certain aspects missing / to be explored in on a different route, then I do think Ufotable needs to find a mix to incorporate said factors into the show without it turning into an amalgamation done badly.
