Well, I mean, human proportions didn't really change that much in the last ten years. At least, as far as I'm aware. But maybe Japanese folk are just club handed, pan faced mutants with rigid steel rods for spines.

I kid, but seriously, it's not like FSN was an ameture work. Yet the characters look like sketches done by someone who never even took a stab at fundementals and went straight into the forbidden realm of "Ah wanna draw de ah nee mehs!" Still a good story though, I guess.

I'm not really going to disagree. Their art in F/SN was nowhere rock solid, that much is true.

You're right of course. F/SN was their first real professional work.

The reason I said that comment about 10 years is to point out that a lot of people can improve. I know it's not really an excuse. But I think Takeuchi draws a lot better nowadays.

Seriously though you'd never guess who the guys behind this VN was:

This was made by Key before they were known as Key.

They are pretty similar if you think about it. Both are motivated by a desire to do right as defined by doing what will lead to the prosperity of the person/people they love, both fall into a self destructive spiral in which their quest for the greater good leads them to blindly stumble forward despite it leading to their clear destrusction, both get btfo by NTR, both are born to suffer, and both get utterly **** on in the end.

@Wimbini: That's a frightening image. Allow me to cleans this threads collective pallet with decent VN art:

W-Well modern key works look a lot different than they did back then so that's a sign of improvement.

Eh like I said, Fate/Stay nights art is a mixed bag because times it can be really bad, but then it turns out gems like this.

Hey I was planning on reading that before watching more than the first episode of the anime. I should get off my ass and do that.

Obligatory Zero Escape has  fantastic art.

Mumble mumble, I wish they kept it hand drawn for VLR but it still looks nice.

Super biased though cause everything I've played by the folks somehow involved (Ever17, Remember11, I/O and the Zero Escape series), all end up looking quite nice. Ever17 had some awkwardness to its art at times but it still looked rather good.

Now to slink back to my lurking corner. :P

@Wim: I've been following it, and I actually like it. I say "actually" because it seems like everyone who liked the VN hates the show with a passion. Of course that might just be because I'm happy they gave best lemon a decent amount of screen time.

Kariya is the worse character in Zero. Don't see why people feel sorry for him or even like him. It's his own bloody fault that this happen to Sakura. He's a Matou, he should have known Zouken who is well known to be a ruthless bastard would do ANYTHING for the sake of magic in his family. The guy was simply an idiot who refused to do his duty and that bit everyone involved in the ass. Plus Berserker was pretty meh compared to SN Berserker. If those two Bersekres fought, man he would get trashed by based Illy and Berseeeerker.

As for Bluebeard, Bluebeard is an amusing loon that was sadly put into the wrong class and had a incompetent master who was pretty stupid. As for Kiri, I've already been on the record that I find Shirou to be a much better protag, and Kotomine>Kiri.

Simple--a lot of people love conflicts that generally revolves around conservatives and reactionaries, which is a lot of what both Kariya and Tokiomi represent. Adding elements like personal struggle and the lengths a person is willing to go to achieve their goal is an easy method to instigate emotions from the viewers. Zero does it quite well, but I personally have little interest in such aspects so naturally I wasn't rooting for him at all, especially since he has a very naive and closeminded view on the matter and is emotionally unstable.

Caster / Ryuunosuke is certainly an interesting duo, mostly do to them representing one of the worst possible scenarios that the Grail can entail--an incapable Master paired with a troubled Servant and its repercussions. Weakest characters in the show, and I wish they would have done more with them as characters, but eh.

Eh, Tokiomi was just a third rate mage who got what he deserved by Kotomine. Rin should be embarrassed by her father really.

Kariya is the weakest and easily most uninteresting "master" in Fate/Zero for me. At the start I could see him getting interesting but as time flew by I even started to forget his existance and his name went missing almost as soon as he left the screen. He did face rather stiff competition from pretty much everyone else so that may have made me forget him faster than I'd otherwise would've

I don't actually hate the show with a passion but I do think it is a shame that they rush it as much as they do. I mean best girl had 2 episodes sure but they left out some great moment like

Spoiler
but overall I'm "okay" with it. The latest episode proved us that they weren't planning to follow the VN close to begin with so I'm actually curious how they are going to follow though with the other routes.

Also Mitcher is best girl.

In a way though, that can be seen as some expert writing on Urobuchi's part. The character was meant to be a piece of nothing that wasn't even given a second thought by the rest of the cast, and the fact that you felt the same way watching him struggle is probably exactly what the butcher wanted.

Also Mitcher is best girl.

And the best grill of the season.

Personally, it does not help that I read the VN so I already know what Sakura went through in graphic detail, to learn that all of this could have been avoided had Kariya just accepted his duty as a Matou, so much stuff would have been avoided.

*grumble grumble*

You want to know what I felt? Complete and uttter anger at that idiots choice that destroyed the life of two young girls and would gave rise to 11 years of absolute hell along with what happens to her and many other people in HF. It all goes back to him because he refused to accept his duty.

I have no sympathy at all, just good ol fashioned anger.

If truly the intention than that could be the case. I'll never ever be certain what goes on inside Urobuchi so anything really could be possible. Though it wouldn't have hurt if I could remember his name and not have to resort to the wiki or House.. would save me a lot of confusion whenever his name appear in discussions  ;)

While I agree that it can be seen as his fault, that's kind of a narrow view of the whole thing. The family head was scum, and he didn't want to essentially do his bidding. In refusing, Sakura was the one made to suffer, but that wasn't his intention, and he literally gave his life in a pretty painful manner trying to free her from the hell he had unintentionally brought upon her.

@Rah: My brother's and I used to just refer to him as "The Bug".
