Err can't say I remember that part... there were a lot of car shenanigans though that I remember such as Akio flipping over the front, and all the various other... randomness. Akio was such a bizzare character, I feel like until he showed up the anime was almost in second gear or something.

There were so many one-off things it's hard to keep track I feel like I had settled into having the shadow puppets just be about recaps and then wham, out of left field it's this super macabre thing. I think it's one of the later episodes... it was like having this dark friend in a dark time and so it's all kind of blurry.

However, I distinctly recall things like the Blackrose situation which you mentioned as well as the part right before the ending ending with the coffin and all that, very surreal imagery, kind of intense emotionally also.

All in all, it definitely leaves an impression.

The part I mentioned was in the movie which you might now have seen. It was even more bizzare then the TV series was if you can believe it.

The surreal imagery is a huge draw for me. One of the reasons I rate the series so highly is how drenched in symbolism and surrealism it is. Even the music that played during the duels was heavily symbolic if you took the time to read through the lyrics.

I was particularly drawn to how much it played on the classical fairy tale of the prince rescuing the princess, and I very much like how it deconstructed the entire concept from top to bottom. Utena in particular made a great main character as she was able to play both the prince and the princess at once, and the story really did well at messing with your perception of those roles.

I could easily write a few mini novels about the symbolism with the duels, the floating castle and the imagery but I'm just on a short break at work so I'll sum up my thoughts on it all with this: hnnnnnnnnnnng

What did you think of Nanami BTW? At first I hated her, but by the end she ended up being one of the more interesting characters in the show. I like that they were able to take this dispacle joke character and turn her into a real character that I could in many ways relate too.

And I'm just repeating myself here but the 2 partner episode on Wakaba during the blackrose arc was a beast in of itself. Like the entire BR was amazing, but those 2 episodes helped cement this series as one of my personal favorites.

One day.. One day I'll figure out what Mikis stopwatch was for.. Lol

OK. well, back to work :'(

Here I got it, I hearby like Rah's post in Isichar's name, and sacrificing one of my own precious databytes in devotion to the ideals of the magical girl.

And yes to MKE! Umi is really just as cool as Sayaka as far as I'm concerned.

Nanami was... ehh... I feel like Touga's presence and influence kind of screwed up any clear perspective on her overall. I didn't really know what to think by the end. Oh god, now I just remembered the egg episode... sane thoughts sane thoughts. Ok. Phew. It felt like there was something there maybe but it disappeared pretty quickly, that's pretty vague but I don't really know how else to describe it.

Wakaba on the other hand resonated a good deal more. Although Utena was probably the main draw throughout.

Think it's time for me to finally to watch Nekomonogatari so that when I got plenty of time again I'm fully ready for second season

@bro

I lost count after a while so sounds plausible if not more!

It's the thing with the toothbrush.

Optimus Prime says: hygiene is important.

Anyways day 15...

Jesus Christ, still got some more to go, but god is this thing well written.

Spoiler

Bloody brilliant.

Will finish off tonight.

But I needs to go outside! Eeeww... oh well.

P.S Oh and the change of Saber's sex was the right decision. It adds to the tragedy of her character. To deny everything AS WELL as your gender for your country is even sadder. Not just on an emotional level, but on a physical level as well.

VN does a lot for these characters that already awesome in the anime.

Damn you Rah! Staaahp! Wait.. Don't stop! Damnit so confused :S

@Sim

Pretty much nailed it. Especially considering I got blinding light coming down on my face at work too.

The egg episode was pure gold. Same with the cowbell. Some of the best fillers in anime I think. Nanami was definitely a crazy character, just a surprisingly interesting one.

100% agreed on Wakaba. Utena was by far my favorite character, and then Wakaba and Juri are tied for 2nd.

With Rayearth I actually don't remember a whole lot about the story or characters beyond their names and such, since its one of the first mangas I ever read as a kid. I just love the art style to death.

Well Akio and Souji were pretty interesting also IMO, on the dark side of things, all things considered, so I'd say Utena and then them and then probably Wakaba as personal most interesting chars.

I re-watched some MKE recently, to be honest I never thought of it as being similar to Madoka because it has kind of a more straightforward spin to it. The thing is though it actually has a lot of crazy twists and things like that I had kind of forgotten about it that put it into a unique category. Every time I thought I was going to weave out something weird would happen, by the end it was more like the whole thing was upside down.

And yeah the actual artistic aspect is pretty much unmatched in anime as far as I'm concerned.

And it has Mokona.

That kind of excites me to hear about the twists since its been so long that I don't even remember them. That would make a rewatch even more enjoyable.

Have to agree on the art aspect, its definitely about as hnnnnnnng as you can get. The character designs are absurdly cool IMO. Too bad you don't see many people cosplay those nowadays.

Outside? But isn't there's a giant ball of fire in the sky the likes of which would leave even Elminster himself in awe out there? Best to avoid going there by all means possible IMO.

Anyhow, read some Berserk today. Still on early stages, but I am digging the artstyle and Gatts looks like an intriguing character. Has caught my attention for sure.

So I caught up on the Akame ga Kill manga and holy ****, it is so much better than the abomination of an adaptation that the anime is.

Was the anime always such a terrible adaptation? I was under the impression that it started to drop in quality with the last three episodes.

The tone was always slightly off. And the art style in the manga is much nicer. The character designs suffered the most from the stylistic difference. But like you said, the last few episodes really butchered the story. I'd say that anyone interested should start on chapter 39 of the manga and catch up from there (assuming you've watched up the most recent point in the anime).

No it came out in 1989.

I am just sad.

Because the other day I told everyone who has not seen it to watch it.

No one did.

I'm sad.

Everyone else should be sad with me.

So everyone go watch War in the Pocket so you can be sad.

With me.

Same year I was born :o

I'm intrigued. I'll add it to the list for when I start watching anime again.

Thatäs what I'll be doing, been reading the manga at the side but can now freely just blaze ahead and not care about going past the show

I have managed to watch a few episodes of I Don't Understand what my husband is saying, which works well since the episodes are so short.

For a short its pretty funny, and a tad bit cute and awwww worthy at times.

"I'm not sure if I'm putting up with him or if he's putting up with me" :D
