Anyway, I'm a little over half-way through Steins;Gate and I'm beginning to notice some plot holes.

OBJECTION! Any plot hole can be explained by the paradoxes created by changing the time line over and over again!

 

EDIT: Also its heavily implied that the ORIGINAL timeline is the one where Ruka was born a girl. Notice all their problems started when they changed her past by making her be born as a girl instead of a dude? So off the bat, the timeline is already screwy. And the only good end in the anime is where Ruka isnt a girl.

So! I decided to rate around 100 random anime. I think I may have forgotten a few, possibly even bigger ones, as well as filled in some blanks on some others, but basically if you are like well what's dis anime thing and oh I like crazy stuff where can I find more.. well here's one person's random opinion if you click the spoiler. Brave 10 – No.

Bleach – The best scene in the whole anime is the one between Rukiya and Ichigo where she makes things simple for him by drawing a simplistic picture of the situation with crayons.
Byakkuya’s Bankai was also pretty good, all you have to do is watch 60000 minutes of other stuff to get there. Oh right, no you don’t.

X – It’s basically the pre-quel to a theoretical post-apocalyptic anime, which is a very strange and crazy feeling to watch and observe that process. It’s kind of screwy because they never wrote an ending to it though.

Black Lagoon/Canaan – They’ve got hot girls and some pretty cool gun fight scenes, what else do you need really?

Initial D – Pretty cool car scenes, solid enough other stuff going on, but really the series is all about the car chases.

Jin Roh – Lethargic.

Trigun Badlands Rumble – Not really all that different from Trigun the TV show.

Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas – Massive divergence between Saints and demons in terms of enjoyment. Demons felt interesting and compelling, saints were… guh…. Completely unwatcahable.

Tales of the Abyss – Basically just like the game.

Claymore – More fun than Berserk as far as I’m concerned, although the ending is apparently changed in the anime and Berserk has it beat in that respect.

Dead Leaves – Not appropriate for anyone of any age.

Last Exile – It felt like it had all the elements to be fun and interesting, but it never actually was fun. I’d say that was primarily because the brother and sister main characters were never very cool or successful.

Paprika – Dumb.

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya – Ok

Kiki’s delivery service – Cute, not weighty.

Totoro – Cute, not weighty

Howl’s Moving Castle – Cute, kind of weighty also.

Princess Mononoke – Less cute, more weighty.

Spirited Away – Best of both worlds.

Porco Rosso – Did not enjoy.

Black Butler – I did not really enjoy it aside from the English Dub voice acting of the one female maid because she was funny. WOT? MASTUH SEY BASTIUN!

Ouran High School Host Club – This was a very light and fun anime.

Nodame Cantabile – Same as Ouran but less funny and less cute. Chiaki is annoying, Nodame is ok.

Suisei no Gargantia – This was so weird, this guy crash lands on this other planet and then basically nothing happens for the rest of the anime.

Clannad After Story –It’s a sad story and all, but really that’s not until the end.

Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien – Clannad-Lite, it gets a bit whimsical and boring but the core elements are pretty solid.

Hikaru No Go – It’s kinda fun though quite hard to get all the way to the end, it’s disappointed when it breaks off with the main kid’s own independent quest to become a grandmaster.

Chobits – Chi! Chi! Chi!

Sailor Moon – Honestly it seems like the magical girl concept has such amazing power overall, it’s just it seems really boring also.

Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya – Way better than the TV show. It’s basically Stein’s Gate all over again.

Stein’s Gate – It’s pretty unremarkable for the first half, and honestly if you were being picky you could say that about the second half. Moeka blows it into a whole different category though IMO. It also has a really fun intro like GITS.

Lucky Star – Basically the same thing as Azumanga Daioh, although no Tomo.

Kekkeishi – The definition of an average anime.

Eureka 7 – This… this… was…. Something else.

Witchblade – Miley Cyrus the anime.

Trigun – Bleh…

Vision of Escaflowne – It’s really quite interesting, but it’s also kind of bland at the same time.

Blood C the Last Dark – This one was very different, it wasn’t fun though at all.

Now and Then, Here and There – Same thing as Blood C, it’s not fun at all, despite being different.

Elfen Lied – It’s an interesting one, for sure. I think there’s a an idea in here that some people experience pain at a greater intensity than other people.

Rideback – It was different and fun but also felt somewhat pointless.

Samurai Champloo – The best episode was probably the one where they accidentally got an entire region stoned. Outside of that and a few other moments it felt very pointless.

Solid State Society – I’m not really into GITS like a lot of people. They have really cool intros, music, and some episodes that are that way, as well as the movies with some parts or another, but it’s also very, very hard to watch at times.

Sword of the Stranger – No fun until the final fight.

Rosario Vampire – Moeka-San. It’s kind of fun.

Attack on Titan – I didn’t enjoy this anime. I thought it had one interesting scene in the first episode, one kind of fun character (Mikasa), but the rest basically just reminded me of DBZ or Gundam Seed with a different surface and was kind of grating so I gave up on it. Similar to Death Note it felt massively front loaded.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel – I kind of enjoyed it but it also kind of sucked for me.

Baka to Test – It’s kind of funny at times but kind of hard to watch at others. It’s kind of the exact same thing I just said about Arpeggio, kinda.

Trust and Betrayal – It felt like it was being very deep when it was really more of a glacially paced romance.

Parasyte – Ew.

Fullmetal Alchemist – A potent combination of eastern and western themes in storytelling. It’s fun but at the same time I wonder if there aren’t too many jokes, or too many characters, or something like that. I wonder if it couldn’t have been like 26 episodes and still been basically all there? There’s kind of a feeling of sameness across characters and places after awhile I think might be what it is for me.

Angel Sanctuary – Angel Sanctuary breaks all kinds of strange barriers like having a story featuring incest, heavy violence between straightforwardly Christian themed angels and demons, as well as androgynous types and all that jazz. However, that doesn’t really make it fun necessarily; it mostly just makes it odd. However, Alexiel seemed really cool so I gave it a big score for that.

Code Geass – I really enjoyed this one because it was very silly but managed to channel some more interesting themes and ideas at the same time. I feel like you normally only get one or the other. It’s like a hipster independent take on a mega glossy mecha anime, or maybe a deconstruction of the epic war story. At any rate, my personal favorite anime.

Cowboy Bebop – The sheen and music makes it engaging, but I feel like there’s nothing really happening at the same time. Ed is probably the coolest character, and Faye is ok at times, and then a dog was about as fun as the other characters. I felt like I was watching a filler anime rather than an anime with filler episodes.

Baccano – I really couldn’t stand some of the characters or ideas, so annoying.

Kill La Kill – It was really only ambitious when it came to superficial things like making all the characters half naked. So… it’s porn. This isn’t a statement against porn, necessarily; it’s just there’s porn for porn.

Hunter X Hunter – I really don’t understand heavy shonen type things. I watched DBZ when I was 12, but I’m no longer 12 so…
If you pushed a pin into my hand yes it’s more fun than DBZ.

Spice and Wolf/FMP:F – These were both a lot of fun, very relaxing and silly. Perfect as exemplars of anime and to show entertainment does not require excessive splatter or guts or heart-pounding epicness to make it fun.

Death Note – I was completely absorbed in it for awhile but after the FBI agent died I stopped caring. After the end of the first season I mostly stopped paying attention. It’s pretty exciting for an episode and a half though.

Eden of the East – Ew.

Angel Beats – It had some surprising and interesting moments but also plenty of dull or incoherent ones to me. I was having fun in massive spurts and then unsure of any of the character's names or faces.

No Game No Life – It had a few funny parts but it also felt pointless. There didn’t appear to be any larger thing going on beyond random spurts of humor or stuff like that. No Game No Point.

Accel World – Same thing as SAO really. It’s really hard to watch at times though. I think SAO and to some degree Accel world are just very threatening to people for standing for the idea that cute people can also be capable (Asuna, Kyourohime), but that’s the only idea in either of them.

GITS/Jin-Roh/Darker Than Black/Akira – Motoko is a cool character but she’s also just kind of hanging out for the most of GITS, and all the chatter about deeper meanings and politics feels very pseudo to me. I guess they just didn't really work out for me in the end.

Darker than Black – Ugh.

Revolutionary Girl Utena – It’s so insanely random and different, but was extremely un-fun for big portions. It felt like the only real important parts happen in the last 2-3 episodes and in bits and pieces of select arcs. That said, it’s randomness is virtually unsurpassed in anime. It’s also not as vacant as FLCL or Haibane Renemi.

Haibane Renmei – It’s also different and unique feeling, but un-fun all the same, sort of like a calmer and mellowed out Utena. So calm though, it forgets to have a point.

FLCL – Well I’m just copy-pasting for the above 2 and applying it to this one. Watch all three together in one day and see if you can still form a complete sentence at the end.

Magic Knight Rayearth – I sort of was really surprised by this one because I didn’t read that it was anything special necessarily. However, it was basically pretty similar to Madoka Magica by the end and for that I enjoyed it a lot. Umi is majorly amazing.

Tsubasa OVAs – This one was really incomprehensible and different, but also felt very important and fun at the same time. So, another balanced anime. I like how both Sakura and Syaoran are pretty cool and fun to be around, as opposed to just either the male or female character being cool.

RG Veda – Same as MKE, I didn’t expect to like a lot or anything because I hadn’t heard anything about it. However, it’s really weird, but also seemingly kind of profound at the same time. How come Ashura and Yasha have such a deep connection? I couldn’t really understand just why it seemed so unusual, but so powerful at the same time...

Fate/Zero – The problem I had is they decided to compound a pretty violent and arbitrarily horrible world with a deconstruction type of approach which results in a kind of chaotic over-kill situation of blood, guts, and pretentious windbaggy discussions about war or politics. The lowpoint is the worm character situation, overall, it’s pretty vapid despite some accelerated moments of excitmenet, such as the Lancer-Saber duel.

Fate/Stay– The Excalibur portion was really cool, and so were some of the later parts. It’s probably safe to say some people gave up early on without getting to that though.

Sword Art Online – It’s kind of incredibly lame, and yet it actually kind of reaches into you and sort of makes you want to pay attention to what happens next, which is rare for anime. Probably closer to a random average JRPG than anime. So, I did enjoy it, basically.

Stein’s Gate – It’s pretty unremarkable for the first half, and honestly if you were being picky you could say that about the second half. Moeka blows it into a whole different category though IMO. It also has a really fun intro like GITS.

Lucky Star – Basically the same thing as Azumanga Daioh, although no Tomo.

Kekkeishi – The definition of an average anime.

Eureka 7 – This… this… was…. Something else.

Witchblade – Miley Cyrus the anime.

Trigun – Bleh…

Vision of Escaflowne – It’s really quite interesting, but it’s also kind of bland at the same time.

Blood C the Last Dark – This one was very different, it wasn’t fun though at all.

Now and Then, Here and There – Same thing as Blood C, it’s not fun at all, despite being different.

Elfen Lied – It’s an interesting one, for sure. I think there’s a an idea in here that some people experience pain at a greater intensity than other people.

Rideback – It was different and fun but also felt somewhat pointless.

Samurai Champloo – The best episode was probably the one where they accidentally got an entire region stoned. Outside of that and a few other moments it felt very pointless.

Solid State Society – I’m not really into GITS like a lot of people. They have really cool intros, music, and some episodes that are that way, as well as the movies with some parts or another, but it’s also very, very hard to watch at times.

Sword of the Stranger – No fun until the final fight.

Rosario Vampire – Moeka-San. It’s kind of fun.

Attack on Titan – I didn’t enjoy this anime. I thought it had one interesting scene in the first episode, one kind of fun character (Mikasa), but the rest basically just reminded me of DBZ or Gundam Seed with a different surface and was kind of grating so I gave up on it. Similar to Death Note it felt massively front loaded.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel – I kind of enjoyed it but it also kind of sucked for me.

Baka to Test – It’s kind of funny at times but kind of hard to watch at others. It’s kind of the exact same thing I just said about Arpeggio, kinda.

Trust and Betrayal – It felt like it was being very deep when it was really more of a glacially paced romance.

Parasyte – Ew.

Fullmetal Alchemist – A potent combination of eastern and western themes in storytelling. It’s fun but at the same time I wonder if there aren’t too many jokes, or too many characters, or something like that. I wonder if it couldn’t have been like 26 episodes and still been basically all there? There’s kind of a feeling of sameness across characters and places after awhile I think might be what it is for me.

Angel Sanctuary – Angel Sanctuary breaks all kinds of strange barriers like having a story featuring incest, heavy violence between straightforwardly Christian themed angels and demons, as well as androgynous types and all that jazz. However, that doesn’t really make it fun necessarily; it mostly just makes it odd. However, Alexiel seemed really cool so I gave it a big score for that.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes – It’s fun, it’s got a lot of positive things in different parts. The one thing that annoyed me more than anything though was Phezzan and all the machinations that occurred there. Some characters were slightly less than exciting also. It’s not Elfen Lied/Magical Girl crazy. It’s engaging though and a lot more consistent.

Code Geass – I really enjoyed this one because it was very silly but managed to channel some more interesting themes and ideas at the same time. I feel like you normally only get one or the other. It’s like a hipster independent take on a mega glossy mecha anime, or maybe a deconstruction of the epic war story. At any rate, my personal favorite anime.

Cowboy Bebop – The sheen and music makes it engaging, but I feel like there’s nothing really happening at the same time. Ed is probably the best character, and Faye is ok at times, and then a dog competes with the other characters. It’s arguably a filler anime rather than an anime with filler episodes.

Baccano – I really couldn’t stand some of the characters or ideas, so annoying.

Kill La Kill – It was really only ambitious when it came to superficial things like making all the characters half naked. So… it’s porn. This isn’t a statement against porn, necessarily; it’s just there’s porn for porn.

Hunter X Hunter – I really don’t understand heavy shonen type things. I watched DBZ when I was 12, but I’m no longer 12 so…
If you pushed a pin into my hand yes it’s more fun than DBZ.

Spice and Wolf/FMP:F – These were both a lot of fun, very relaxing and silly. Perfect as exemplars of anime and to show entertainment does not require excessive splatter or guts or heart-pounding epicness to make it fun.

Death Note – I was completely absorbed in it for awhile but after the FBI agent died I stopped caring. After the end of the first season I mostly stopped paying attention. It’s pretty exciting for an episode and a half though.

Eden of the East – Ew.

Angel Beats – It had some surprising and interesting moments but also plenty of dull or incoherent ones to me.

No Game No Life – It had a few funny parts but it also felt pointless. There didn’t appear to be any larger thing going on beyond random spurts of humor or stuff like that. No Game No Point.

Accel World – Same thing as SAO really. It’s really hard to watch at times though. I think SAO and to some degree Accel world are just very threatening to people for standing for the idea that cute people can also be capable (Asuna, Kyourohime), but that’s the only idea in either of them.

GITS/Jin-Roh/Darker Than Black/Akira – Motoko is a cool character but she’s also just kind of hanging out for the most of GITS, and all the chatter about deeper meanings and politics feels very pseudo to me. Poor man/female’s Gainax anime/Evangelion I guess.

Darker than Black – Ugh.

Revolutionary Girl Utena – It’s so insanely random and different, but was extremely un-fun for big portions. It felt like the only real important parts happen in the last 2-3 episodes and in bits and pieces of select arcs. That said, it’s randomness is virtually unsurpassed in anime. It’s also not as vacant as FLCL or Haibane Renemi.

Haibane Renmei – It’s also different and unique feeling, but un-fun all the same, sort of like a calmer and mellowed out Utena. So calm though, it forgets to have a point.

FLCL – Well I’m just copy-pasting for the above 2 and applying it to this one. Watch all three together in one day and see if you can still form a complete sentence at the end.

Magic Knight Rayearth – I sort of was really surprised by this one because I didn’t read that it was anything special necessarily. However, it was basically pretty similar to Madoka Magica by the end and for that I enjoyed it a lot. Umi is majorly amazing.

Tsubasa OVAs – This one was really incomprehensible and different, but also felt very important and fun at the same time. So, another balanced anime. I like how both Sakura and Syaoran are pretty cool and fun to be around, as opposed to just either the male or female character being cool.

RG Veda – Same as MKE, I didn’t expect to like a lot or anything because I hadn’t heard anything about it. However, it’s really weird, but also seemingly kind of profound at the same time. How come Ashura and Yasha have such a deep connection? I couldn’t really understand just why it seemed so unusual, but so powerful at the same time.

Fate/Zero – The problem I had is they decided to compound a pretty violent and arbitrarily horrible world with a deconstruction type of approach which results in a kind of chaotic over-kill situation of blood, guts, and pretentious windbaggy discussions about war or politics. The lowpoint is the worm character situation, overall, it’s pretty vapid despite some accelerated moments of excitmenet, such as the Lancer-Saber duel.

Fate/Stay– The Excalibur portion was really cool, and so were some of the later parts. It’s probably safe to say some people gave up early on without getting to that though.

Sword Art Online – It’s kind of incredibly lame, and yet it actually kind of reaches into you and sort of makes you want to pay attention to what happens next, which is rare for anime. Probably closer to a random average JRPG than anime. So go play more JRPGs people

I did a top 10.... This is 90, with explanations for like all of them... I guess that just feels pretty different for me. I mean it's one page versus like 15.. Plus it's a different 10 anyway.... and that was probably more than a month ago....

 

I guess I just don't see those two things as very similar... but also I don't see why that even matters. Even assuming this is somehow repeating myself like.. uh.. that's never happened here or something? lol..

 

I recall people talking about PMMM a lot.. why is this getting picked on? Just seems weird.

Interesting list. Most of the scores I'd roughly agree on, with a few notable exceptions. I really liked Baccano mostly for it's storytelling technique and well executed themes. The characters were somewhat hit and miss but I did find them mostly entertaining if not likeable.

 

You've already heard my thoughts on Steins;Gate so I probably don't need to go into that again.

 

A bit sad to see Clannad so low.

 

Lol on the Fallen Leaves comment. That anime was certainly.. something.

Hmm.. yeah it's not really that different from a lot of things on the subject, I noticed, although there are definitely a few points of difference (less favorable to certain weird anime like Champloo/Bebop, more favorable to magical girls, etc)

 

And yeah Dead Leaves gave me a bad feeling overall... *shivers*

You know I did like Trigun the first time I saw it.. which I don't remember when or where that was, it was actually one of the first anime I saw. It's just it was before I saw some of the crazier stuff so I didn't like it as much relative to them.

 

I saw the movie in theaters though, the guy with the cross is neat.

Sword art online was great. Then it became ****, then good, then **** again and now it's ok. (for now) That must make listing it difficult.
