Great episode!
It is truly a joy to witness that Shirou is actively developing as a character, that he is progressing in a coherent manner and the show takes initiative to add context to every displaying factor that leads to it. Improving physically with Saber (that moment was pretty cute as well) and mentally with Rin (more tsundere moments is always welcome). It is a relief, since I was still skeptical that he would remain as an oppressed individual, but I am glad this is not the case. What I truly enjoyed was how Shirou's actions during the incident differed and reflected that with Rin's. Rin has prepared herself for what the Grail War entails, but actually witnessing actions that it can result in and being directly present is something very different and is hard to actually prepare for. Shirou is still scarred by the incident that happened in the aftermath of the previous Grail War and was able to stay cool headed throughout the whole incident (but still displaying signs of worry). It is a nice change of pace having Shirou being proactive and taking the initiative, and one that works acutely within the narrative.
A tad bit disappointed with Shinji and Rider. Too early to judge it yet, since there are still opportune moments to fill in certain blanks that were left out with these two, but I hope there will be. Otherwise these two were rather terrible, both as characters and serving as displaying figures within the war.
Don't really need to comment on the visual aspects of the show since they are always great, but I really appreciated the level of variety within the episode, which is something I am enjoying and which I would argue is better than in Fate/Zero, considering the usage of different magical workings is greater. The show has now taken a different turn than what I saw from the 2006 version, so I am intrigued to witness how it will develop from here on. Though I am always excited for the next episode.

Anyone else got a "Saber! I choose you!" moment here?
