I did 8 eps of Utena, it's weird how the craziness just kind of seeps in when you least expect it. There's this weird pause and timing hilarity to it all. It was also more normal for awhile than I remembered. For awhile.
At the same time most of it is kind of explained... well except the sword probably.
The whole octopus business and animals was one of the earlier funnier parts.. Operation make Anthy look WEIRD!

I don't know which ones you have seen but Berserk and FMA are up there, Berserk is like gothic fantasy and FMA more like steampunk fantasy.
Claymore is also one, kind of like Berserk with girls. Then there's Spice and Wolf which is sort of a medieval setting.
All those are kinda big though so maybe you have already seen them.
From what I've heard FMA is kind of long and that is why I've not watched it yet but I've heard a lot of positive things about it so I should give it a try.

The reason I haven't watched berserk yet despite it's popularity is because from what I read a lot of people say that the manga is a lot better than the anime. Might give Claymore a try somewhere in the future but right now FMA is first on the list. I'll probably watch the Brotherhood version because it is the one that the manga author had envisioned.

Well the length is a good thing if you like it. It's not really a straight up medieval atmosphere though more steampunk and like a WWI Europe era vibe, but with magic and demonic things also.
FMA is pretty frontloaded for most of the key elements so if you don't like it quickly you would know. Like if for some reason you don't like Edward Elric well... you won't like FMA haha. Kind of the same thing with Claymore, the series revolves around Clare for the most part.
Also has anyone bothered with this crazy thing?
Some medieval styled manga... similar to Berserk... not an anime though yet I think. I don't know anything about it except what I read on wikipedia.

It must be my incredible bias towards LOTGH.
But I'm f*cking loving these prequels.
It's been 10 episodes and there's no politics, which is like, the highlight in LOTGH. But damn, are these arcs still brilliant and expands further on the characters of Reinhard and Siegfried and their relationship. It also does a lot to expand on the LOTGH-verse and...
Just damn.
This show is good even without the stuff that makes it good.
Though to be fair, the main show has so many elements to it besides politics that make it an incredible experience. In fact, it really has a little bit of everything. From romance and comedy to tragedy and war. All of it done with a finesse that's hard to find in most long shows since it's difficult to create that balance.

I haven't had time to finish it, but Clannad is so good.
Toradora is still my favorite anime, Spice and Wolf could have surpassed that if it was actually finished, Holo and Lawrence have the best interactions I have ever seen.

HA! I have yet to watch Clannad too! And I don't know if I will considering I pretty much have been spoiled on everything in that show. Well I'm not really spoiled on Clannad but After Story.

A lengthy anime is fine too. It's simply been a long time since I have watched a long anime I suppose. I'm also fine with steampunk and I have a weak sport for magic and demons so I'll probably will end up watching it.

LOGH gets a lot of things right, though I wouldn't count romance as one of them. Sure, I ship Wenli and Greenhill, but that marriage thing just appeared from nowhere. Ah well, there is plenty of time for it to develop. I am not in a position to critize it yet.
