Lawrence mentions it again later on. I THINK (because these books are being read reeaaallly slowly on my part) there is an arc with a currency war involved involving the Church and local farmers.
The intrigue in these books is awesome btw (but you should already know that.)
But yeah, when Lawrence mentioned it I thought "awesome, conflicts have been one through currency alone." Then I did google it up but was bombarded with four billions words at size 8 font.
As much as I thought it fascinating, you wouldn't get me reading those articles at all xD
I see. Then I have something to look forward to once I get the chance to pick up the novels again. Will PM you once I do and comment on it. And yes, the intrigues are great without a doubt and them not being simplified just for the casual viewer is pleasing. Heck, even arcs that don't directly revolve around economics are well done.

So much sh*t is involved that I had a hard time following. This town literally gets torn apart into like four different factions.
It's so freaking awesome.
And yeah, it's hard to research sh*t you're interested in when the author tries to explain things in such a roundabout way that it takes a G.R.R Martin novel to finish the first sentence xD

The prequels had Schenkopp go up against Kircheis.
That was an epic duel. Seriously, Kircheis is such an amazing character, and even more so with the prequels.
I bet some people will paint him as a 'Mary Sue' since he's... well, I guess "perfect" but nah, he really isn't if you look deeper. I guess you good say his 'perfection' is his fatal flaw.
It's a little spoiler, but not something on the scale of the Red Wedding, hell, it's not even on the scale of Tyrion's big-ass chain. Just a neat little bridge they added in, like Mittermeyer and Reuenthal's cameo.

Alas, I am not that brave (or stupid). Schenkopp vs Reuental was already one that had me edged on my seat, so hopefully this one is as good. Though perhaps I will save it till I experience the prequels myself.
I think Kircheis biggest flaws are his devotion to Reinhard and his benignity. Of course it could also be viewed as strengths, but it is something that can be easily exploited and used against him and / or Reinhard. I think Mittermeyer pointed this out himself.

It's in the prequels I'll link them to you if you want to watch more LOTGH once you're done in the main series
Warning though, there's no politics, or as little as there can be. At least as far as I know from what I've watched of "series 1" (which is Reinhard's side of the story.) So you'll get all the crap you got from the early series of LOTGH, and by that I mean the blatant incompetence of commanders. But there are more compelling characters amongst the Imperial Ranks who aren't Reinhard's future Officers.
And yes, they certainly are his flaws. In the prequel, Kiricheis mentioned another. I can't recall the early series well, but it's almost certainly his conviction. What Reinhard would do within the blink of an eye, even if he didn't want to, Kiricheis couldn't.
Or at least this is what Kiricheis said (and proved in the Dishonour arc of Gaiden.)
P.S
There are two cameos of Yang in series one which just made me grin like an idiot.
One where Reinhard mentions "will I ever had a worthy rival" (or something like that) and another where Schenkopp says "will I ever have a competent commander before I die?" In both he says nothing, and it's just for a second or two, but god is it glorious to just see him xD
Can't wait to get to series 2 which will be all about Yang.
