@Liam: I mean, you could for the Shaft animation, and (in terms of progression) nearly flawless adaptation. But I'd say you're better off reading the manga. The anime changes the tone of certain key scenes. And while that's probably a bigger issue for someone who loved the manga before watching the anime, it still might be a consideration. That aside, season 2 is coming, so the best arc will finally be animated.

Both Eri Kawai (https://en.wikipedia.../wiki/Eri_Kawai), who did her signing voice, and Tomoko Kawakami (https://en.wikipedia...Tomoko_Kawakami), who was her voice actress, died of cancer. Eri Kawai died in 2008 at the age of 43, same year the series stopped airing, and Tomoko Kawakami was diagnosed in 2008 and died in 2011, at the age of 41.
R.I.P., Eri Kawai and Tomoko Kawakami.
