Yes. Yes, it does. As for battles, they are great without a doubt, but there are a lot of them and due to budget constrains you will see some repeated scenes in several battles (e.g. When an army fires arrows, it is the very same used several times). Also, since it is based on the book, which is heavily romanticized, there will be some exaggerated nonsense you will have to deal with. Mostly in terms for the 'heroes' in the show having ungodly fighting capabilities (one scene has a character jumping head first alone while carrying a baby in his arms into an army of thousands and is basically dominating in the battle). It is something getting used to.

Otherwise it is great, with a strong political and military focus, alongside great characters (Cao Cao ) and historical contexts.

 

Is there a decent fansubbed version of it to find? I just looked up a bit on it and found the official dub to be nopenopenopenope, which is apparently a common reaction among reviews as far as I read. They also mentioned it has good fansubs, but didn't link anything and a short search didn't yield promising results.

It is pretty good, and has some nice TL notes which explains several aspects the show takes up. They are much needed if you haven't read the historical background of the time period.

Good you warned me beforehand. I'm pretty much immune to silly stuff like that if I'm given a heads-up first. So now instead of facepalming, I'll probably be screaming "kick his ass" at the screen.

Yeah, changing your mind set over the battles will help. They are actually pretty great and well choreographed, so they are at least entertaining.

BTW, anyone of you here who are a fan of the Fate series should seriously read the light novels--Fate/Apocrypha.

 

It is set in a parallel universe where the Fourth and Fifth Holy Wars (meaning Zero and Stay Night)  didn't take place, due to an incident with the Third War. It takes place in the 2000s, the Grail has reappeared and causes a conflict between the mages in the world, namely the Mage Association and Yggdillennia, who both struggle for the Grail and both factions have 7 Servants on their sides, who are all intriguing figures from history and mythology, including characters like Joan of Arc, Achilleus, Vlad the Impaler, Jack the Ripper, Sakata Kintoki (yeah, the guy who Gintoki is based on in Gintama and they share similar traits. He is totally a badass and hilarious!) and more.

 

Reason why I recommend it is not only due to it being a nice addition that holds similar grounds in story and characterization as the other Fate series, but also b/c this one heavily focuses on the Mage hegemony and its internal struggles. It focuses on ideology, takes up governmental forms like totalitarianism, despotism, constitutional workings, the usage of magic and its workings. 

 

It has a bigger focus than Fate/Zero on aspects like this, which is why I am personally enjoying it immensely. I am no experts on aspects like politics, but I personally find it to be rather complex and it takes many aspects into account, and has several well written characters (both in terms of Masters and Servants) and I highly recommend it. 

 

Especially Chewin and Sim should take a look into them, I am sure you'd love what it delves into. Not sure if House and Wimbini have read them, if not, do take a look.

I'm actually still planning to read that. I still have so many things to play, read and watch so I don't know when I will actually get around to reading it.

 

Hell, I still have to completely read Fate Hollow Ataraxia.
