Well here is hoping that the last episode will give me the only two things I want from this show at this point.

So I just started watching FMAB and I made it to episode 4.

 

I'm really digging the story and I like Edward so no hate complains from me about him.

 

But seriously episode 4, ****** episode 4.

A part of me made the connection very quickly that something happened to his wife and that it had to do with his experiments but Jesus I didn't see the scene coming where he turned his daughter into a monster. To make those scenes so much worse his daughter still acted very innocent and she still cared for her father. I have never cried when watching anime but man oh man those scenes made me feel bad.

Totally with Edward on that one, alchemists shouldn't play Gods that was all kinds of wrong .

That's fine I guess.

I just get a bit sad to see one of the shows responsible for getting me into anime, and what was at one point my favorite anime receive so much hatred and bashing for not being quite as good as something that came long after it.

 

Oh we're talking FMA? I'll defend the blue blazes out of the original FMA. There were definitely parts of that where I went whoa, that was pretty amazing and was waiting for it to happen in FMAB but nothing there.

 

The movie seemed pretty cool also.

Normally what happens when an anime catches up to its anime counterpart it either goes on hiatus or starts up fillers or drags things out to an ungodly amount (DBZ) since the animes can't pass the source material. In FMA's case they just decided to take the story in a completely different direction which I felt was a refreshing change of pace compared to how it was usually handled. It just went and did its own thing and it worked rather well. It was especially fun since I was still reading the manga and despite having watched the anime I didn't really know what to expect from that. if nothing else I felt it was the best thing they could have done with the anime short of taking a few years hiatus.

 

Mmm it really was my #1 anime for quite a few years though. Now it's doomed to be shunned for the reasons I thought made it so worthwhile in the first place I honestly would have thought the difference in direction would have made it more worthwhile to check out, but it's had quite the opposite effect unfortunately.

Now where I'm really torn is the dub vs subs for this series. On the one hand the dub is top notch, and on the other hand the subs has Romi Park ( ) doing Edwards voice.

True. Something like Utena had some amazing fillers for example.

 

The issue with filler is when it's used to allow the source material more time to get ahead you tend to get lots of it at once. Entire arcs/seasons of fillers are fracking horrible. Like who wants to watch 20+ episodes of something in a row that has no ability to move the story or characters forwards in any significant way?

Bleach and Naruto being the golden examples of how NOT to do it(Although Bleach may not be the best example since the story arguably never goes anywhere even when it is actually using the source material )

PMMM is most definitely #1! I very highly suspect it won't be replaced for a long time to come. It's been over a year since I watched the series and I'm still a complete raging fanboy for this series to the point I'll make a whole lot of stupid gushing noises anytime I find out something new I never knew about the witches or such, or if I see a new amazing piece of fanart (and trust me when I say I search daily)

 

Shin Sekai Yori is cemented in as my current #2 as far as animes go for having an amazing main character, and arguably one of the single most amazing endings ever made in fiction (it's pretty much set the standards of how to properly end a series for me), also the antagonist was extremely unique and well executed too. but if we we're to include mangas then Berserk would put up a serious fight for that spot, despite still being ongoing. Then again if I were to include mangas I may as well include VN's too and in that case the Zero Escape series would become another serious contender.

 

I might do a list of my top 10 animes at the end of the year for the hell of it (did one a while back but I'm too lazy to go searching for it) I admit that it's hard for me to judge some of the older animes I watched since I don't know how well they'd hold up now compared to my original viewing, so I'm not sure where FMA would fall in terms of favored animes atm.

Oberstein is definitely cool. I do like his Machiavellian mindset, though I am a bit uncertain whether or not he harbors ulterior motives or if he really has the Empire's interest at heart. Hoping for the latter. And I don't approve of his method regarding his thinking of being hated and he can take it. No, that is just wrong. That is a very selfish attitude and not something you should simple deal with. He is Chief of Military Affairs, being hated by almost everyone within the military and outside of it will be more of a liability than an asset.
