@Chewin.
Basically my reaction too.
I even went into LOTGH wiki to confirm it.
And as for Oberstein.
I don't want to spoil anything but I totally agree on the "hatred" part. But it's part of the reason I like him so much too.
I might do a list of my top 10 animes at the end of the year for the hell of it (did one a while back but I'm too lazy to go searching for it) I admit that it's hard for me to judge some of the older animes I watched since I don't know how well they'd hold up now compared to my original viewing, so I'm not sure where FMA would fall in terms of favored animes atm.
I can easily give you a top four list.
1. LOTGH
2. FMAB
3. Gintama
4. GitS: SAC (entire series.)
The other six? Jesus no. There are that many damn good animes out there. Maybe I'd put Death Note there, even though it's certainly not the best of the best, it still has a soft spot inside of me since it was my first.

GETTING CLOSER TO WHEN FMAB REALLY KICKS IN! (episode 18+)
HELL YEAH!

No Black Lagoon?
For shame!

Oh we're talking FMA? I'll defend the blue blazes out of the original FMA. There were definitely parts of that where I went whoa, that was pretty amazing and was waiting for it to happen in FMAB but nothing there.
The movie seemed pretty cool also.
Yeah, from what I know FMA is a hell of a lot sadder than FMAB.
Also, I gotta give it to them on how they handled the Homunculi (which is a lot different to how Arakawa handled them.) Too bad DoC isn't here, because he prefers FMA over FMAB and was pretty good at telling you why. Chris (I think) prefers FMAB and is pretty good at telling you why also.
I'm placing my bets that Chewin will prefer... err... I don't really know >< FMA is a lot more bitter whilst FMAB has the "good ending" thing going on. That would make it weaker in my books if the ending wasn't so damn fitting and if they didn't fight REAALLLY f*cking hard to earn it. The last arc is essentially the entire finale (10+ episodes btw) which reminds so much me of LOTR because EVERYBODY is fighting, Himoru doesn't forget characters and conveniently have them appear later on, no, it's everybody doing their part and that's what makes it so damn awesome.
If I do watch FMA, it'll be years in the future where I don't watch anime that often anymore and have forgotten just a little at how FMAB went. But that seems impossible now seeing how much I f*cking love it.
But hey, I used to watch LOTR religiously before and now I only watch it like once or twice a year.
They are pretty f*cking long movies though xD
Only EE, of course. If you aren't doing EE you're a dirty casual ![]()

No Black Lagoon?
For shame!
I really would put it there. And I really want to.
But it's not even done yet >< seriously, Black Lagoon has the potential to trump Gintama for me but that sh*t ain't complete. It also doesn't help that Rei (the mangaka) is another f*cking Togashi/Miura in that he doesn't do sh*t (the last chapter was in freaking February of this year.) But I think out of these three Togashi is the worst, because he'll release Names as goddamn Chapters xD
You can say the same thing about Gintama, but it's Yorozuya Forever movie does a good job at wrapping things up and leaving the door for new adventures.
P.S
GitS: SAC is obviously better than Gintama in terms of writing. I just prefer Gintama more for other reasons, mainly because it's so damn long that I've grown really attached to it.

Oberstein is going for the Dark Knight approach, hoho!
FMA is definitely great. Overall it is pretty solid, though it falters a bit within the last episodes, I found. Not at all that bad as many people like to say.
Hmm, dunno exactly how my list top anime list would look like. Possibly something like this from the top of my head.
1. LOGH
2. Fate/Zero
3. GitS:SAC
4. Spice & Wolf
5. Attack on Titan
Hard to place the rest of the list. Though it is only recently that I've started to explore different anime so the list might easily change. Will make a proper one when I have a clear mindset where each of them rank.
I do intend to do a somewhat more extensive top 10 with actual reasonong why each show got their spot once I've watched 100 shows. That should happen at some point next week with me being at 96 right now and with a lot of easily cleared up stuff do pick from if I want it.
There will be PMMM!

I'm surprised by AoT.
You don't usually mention it, that's why ![]()
Oh, and LOTGH at first?
Heh, true. I'm even up with the manga, but haven't felt any desire to talk about it. Speaking of AoT, the Levi backstory anime is up on KissAnime. I know what I will watch later today.
Haha, yeah LOGH was quite a guarantee really. It really hits me in the right places, so to speak, and that it does it so well just makes me love it even more. Certainly not flawless, and there are issues, but the good points easily overweight the bad ones.
Guest_simfamUP_*
NO
THERE ARE NO ISSUES
WE DO NOT SPEAK OF THE ISSUES
WE FANBOI LIKE FANBOIS SHOULD
IT IS FLAWLESS!

Oh btw, the Levi thing is up? REALLY?
That's awesome. Thought it was gonna take a lot longer.
The manga at this moment is being a little shaky in my opinion. It's mostly all this magic mumbo jumbo that's making it sour for me. But on the bright side, there's a high possibility that it's all bullsh*t.
Magic? I must be missing an issue or two. Last I read was the resolution of the conflict with the monarchy (which was not half bad of an arc). Guess I'll have to read up when i have the chance.
Also on a completely unrelated note:
Guest_simfamUP_*
Well, I say 'magic' in the same way Alchemy from FMAB is 'magic' or Contractors from Darker than Black is 'magic.' It's basically a bunch of reveals about Titans and whatnot that don't sit well with me.
And yeah, the coup arc was cool.

Azula
That's it.
You are KoP!

My original waifu. Seriously my favorite character from the show (well alongside Zuko and Iroh). Fire Nation all the way.

That's some great taste! Zuko and Iroh were also among my favorite characters.
Toph!

But Fire Nation is kinda awesome too
If I would have like a top 5 list to recommend someone new to anime this would be my list.
1. Deathnote
hands down number one. It is precise and brilliantly written. If you need to erase someone's view of anime as some sort of cartoon this is the best anime to introduce him/her too. It has the just right amount of complexity and its character development is right on point.
2. Teppen Toppa Gurren Laggan
If you're not really into dark and angsty type of stories, Gurren Laggan is the 2nd option. It has everything: robots, guns, swords, comedy, romance and conflict. It's has a great story about a boy who grew up into a man in just a span of 25 episodes. One of the best animes who didn't waste any of its episodes. These series will take you by surprise after watching it.
3. Full Metal Alchemist and FMA Brotherhood
To be honest, you can let someone watch either one and they will not feel slighted at all. Both series has a different way of tackling the original manga and I find both of them good in their own ways. The first FMA series is a bit darker than brotherhood and can definitely make you raise you're eyebrows more than you like especially on the WTF moments. Brotherhood on the other hand was more loyal to the manga. It is definitely lighter but it still didn't take away the heart of the series. Which is better between the two is debatetable.
4. Beck
One of the best Shounen, Slice of Life out there. If you are into music, this is the series for you. In terms of story, it is a breath of fresh air and definitely not a typical anime that you usually watch. Some parts of the series can be a bit cheesy but not to a point of something you would cringed on. What makes this series definitely one of the best is its soundtrack. Not only you can make someone an anime lover, I have friends who watched this suddenly switched to j-rock as one of their fav music genres.
5. Studio Ghibli Movies
I know these are not series, but you can't introduce someone to anime without them watching any of the Ghibli Movies. Most of them are artistically made and some can really make your head hurt just from trying to understand what just happened. Ghibli Movies is diffenitely a new experience each time you watch one of them. They are surreal, heartfelt and refreshing. A must watch for both new and old anime lovers.
Honorable Mentions:
For Shoujo: Toradora, Itazura na Kiss and Kimi ni Todoke - for those who want light, and romantic stories. These three in my opinion is the best place to start.
For Shounen: Attack on Titan, Soul Eater and Bakuman
Some of you might agree or not but for me this is my list ![]()
Admittedly, ATLA had a great rooster of well established characters, which is something LOK lacks, other than Korra, Lin and Varrick. The rest are kind of meh.
I've seen better, seen worse. Mako's too hard and Bolin's too soft(and a bit of a tryhard). I eventually warmed up to Korra around Book 2.Admittedly, ATLA had a great rooster of well established characters, which is something LOK lacks, other than Korra, Lin and Varrick. The rest are kind of meh.
I was happy with how it turned out. That story has a ton of twists and feels like a supernatural version of Dexter...though I have an easier time empathizing with Mr. Morgan than this protagonist. Plus L is great.1. Deathnote
It's hard to go wrong with Ghibli. I'm not in love with every one of his movies, but still have a strong respect for his work. Princess Mononoke was the first I checked out.
Full Metal Alchemist, I saw the first episode off of Adult Swim but never saw the whole thing. :| Remind me to remedy this issue.
Not all of Studio Ghibli's Movie is directed/written by Hayao Miyazaki. But I do agree with you, some ghibli movies can be a bit too surreal for my taste (Iblard Time). My fav Ghibli movies would be Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.
You should watch FMA, its a good series ^^

YES
YES
AND YES.
Aside from Toph, the main 'group' never really clicked with me that much. Perhaps because they were... well, to put it simply "too good." I know it sounds like BS, but bare with me here. They never (to me that is) reached the depth that was Zuko, Azula and Iroh. Especially Zuko, his transformation is some of the best character development I've seen.
Gaara's from Naruto pales in comparison.
Azula's fall from grace is just f*cking glorious and Iroh is awesome all-round. He actually made me tear up a little in that episode. You know which one I'm talking about, the one where he's around town doing awesome things like singing and shopping and whatnot. Then he goes up to that hill and cries and starts to sing that very same song.
Christ, them feels.
"Leaves from the vine..."
Toph!
But Fire Nation is kinda awesome too
She's actually may favourite from the "heroes." I liked Aang and company, but I loved Toph. It was so awesome to see a blind character who's main strength is actually being blind and isn't some sob story for people who can see to be "grateful."
F*ck.
Everything about Toph is just awesome.
@Eldrid.
As much as I love Death Note, I can't agree on it being number one (mainly because of the latter half.) I agree with Dominus. I LOVE how it ends. A lot of people don't and I have yet to understand why.
And FMAB basically is the manga
still, there's about 10% of it that DIDN'T make it in, which makes me sad because it's more clear in the manga that Ed's got the hots for Winry.
And who wouldn't?
She's a f*cking babe.
Not seen Beck. I'll add it to the list! :-)
@Dominus.
http://kissanime.com...Brotherhood-Dub
There you go!
Already pulling the strings for pro Brotherhood huehuehuehuehue.
P.S
It wouldn't be a sim post if I didn't say this.
But I can so totally see Toph being one hot babe when she's older
