So apparently the final episode of the first cour from FSN UBW will be a one hour long episode.

 

I honestly have no idea why they did it since I'm pretty sure they can cover the whole route with 26 episodes but hey I'm not complaining.

The only episode that was an hour long in F/Z was the first one. (they also did this with episode 0 and 1 in F/SN)

 

They haven't done this before with the final episode of the first season.

 

Unless my memory of F/Z is just that bad. It has been a long time since I watched that show so who knows.

You'll find just how competent Yang's circle actually is. Unlike Reinhard's, we can't really put Dusty on the level of Reaunthal or even Muller. Reinhard is the glue that keeps his Officers together, yet as individuals, they are very capable. Yang, was not only the glue, but the brains of every operation the Rebellion forwarded.

 

In that sense, the loss of Yang is perhaps greater than if Reinhard were to die.

 

Yet, like you said, the show knows this, it carries an objective examination of every situation thus far and then creates the most logical outcomes for events. With Yang out of the picture, it really puts a lot of strain on the Alliance, you'd think they'd lose all hope, and for some time, they did. But in the end, they all pulled together in a way that couldn't be considered an 'asspull' at all.

 

This goes especially for me. The loss of Yang for the Alliance was a similar to my own. What the flying f*ck were they going to do now? But then you remember that he didn't choose to have Attenborough or Merkatz around with him for the lolz, and they were all capable people who could carry out his strategies with precision.

 

Appointing Julian was a weird one for me at first, and to me, it still feels more of a political move. To the masses, who better to represent Yang Wenli than Wenli's own "son?" Doubtless Julian was a great fighter, but he'd never led an army before, but the show knew that amd corresponded appropriately with the "revelation" of the Rebellion's competence. Something you simply forgot all the while Yang did things, but was always there.

The crew that surrounded Yang are certainly competent, but have yet to fully showcase what they are fully capable off, to which the show will most likely start to portray.

 

What I like in contrast to Reinhard, is that while he attracts a lot of admirals or higher ranking officers (either inspired by his actions as a commander himself or to exploit and rise high under his service), Yang in turn--due to his nonchalant and friendly nature--attracts people of all sorts; from soldiers to admirals, merchants to politicians. I think it is a much more powerful feature in regards to Yang, sadly he doesn't know how to exploit it. Or rather, doesn't want to. But this allows for Yang to have some exceptional people under him, followed by his acute sense of judging characters around him.  

 

It is a bit tricky to materialize whether Yang or Reinhard's death would cause a greater problem to respect nation. To really go down to it, you have to start analyzing respective governmental institutions and even then it can go either way.

 

The Alliance was functional at best, since it was started as a means of desperation in order to bring stability with Yang as its head. It crumbling with having both him and several political individuals erased certain caused some major frictions, in large part to no one expecting such an outcome and didn't prepare for it (which is tricky naturally, but should have been done from the very start. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the pillar that is holding the roof). Still, the characters did more than a capable job at fixing whatever they could without it leading into internal struggles. Julian and Frederica's positions were both for political reasons, and while both not the best suitable candidates in terms of work-ability, their connections to Yang is what makes them for great figure heads. For the time being at least. Showing progress is needed.

 

The Empire, while certainly showing much more stability in contrast to the Alliance, the Lohengramm dynasty (while not that rationally different from the previous one) is only a year old and his death without an apparent heir would lead to severe ramifications; clashes to find a suitable candidate to replace him a prominent one. It is a completely different level of struggle when you rely on having an individual as head of state, rather than a figure head like Yang. Considering that the show has portrayed there existing several characters in the Empire who harbor great ambitions, this would be the ideal choice to seal it. This is also a problem with a totalitarian government in situation like this. 

 

But as I said, there are cases that it can lean to for both parties in several directions. It leading to chaos is not always the obvious outcome. There are many aspects and causes to take into consideration.

Yeah, the Alliance right now cleaned up pretty well after what happened. And the best thing about their clean up is that everybody is aware what role they're playing. Julian and Fredrica know as much as the rest of the brass that they are political figure heads for the Alliance. No one tries to pull the strings, and in terms of functionality, it's probably more solid than the Empire's since no one is ambitious enough to compromise the relationship between the 'leaders' of the current government.

 

As for the Empire, yes, you are completely right. Reinhard as of now is the only member of his dynasty and it's been mentioned a few times that he should marry (at least from what I remember, I know it's either where you are or later.) Unlike the Alliance, the Empire operates under the "Leviathan" philosophy, and Reinhard is exactly that. Though he's a decent politician, he's a much better military commander and that's his flaw. He risks his entire dynasty, his entire work just for the glory of battle.

 

If Reinhard were to die though, I can totally see the dynasty surviving a few years before its slow corrosion. Reinhard did not only have very competent individuals, but loyal individuals who both loved and feared him. It's quite the feat actually, to accomplish both.

 

Thing is, I want to say more, but there are lots of things that will happen from Post-Yang that I can't mention. That's why my posts are a bit wonky at times since I'm being careful not to spoil things xD

Yes, that is constitutional government to you when it is run by capable individuals with an equal mindset (I accidentally mixed that with totalitarianism in my previous post. Whoops! Edited. 

 

I wouldn't say that his flaw entirely lies on him being a better military commander, since he is capable at both state matters and warfare, but rather that he harbors a very romantic mindset on the world which often can get the better of him. Which is something Oberstein has continuously stated that Reinhard should change. 

 

Reinhard is indeed a very capable leader. He is intelligent and knowledgeable, but not above everyone on everything, and thus surrounds himself with other intelligent individuals (many who are more adept in some areas than him). Along with his impressive display of utilizing the "carrot & stick" method, which is something essential for a leader to be able to use, also strengthens his position.

 

Hehe, I am certain you are and I respect that you haven't mentioned anything from where I stand. Gonna finish the remainign 20 episodes (GODS WHYYY!!) so we can continue in a more in-depth manner.

 

HOW DO THEY AFFORD THIS?

 

Animation is pretty expensive, but these guys just go overboard.

Though I guess it isn't that complicated. As far as I am aware, anime in Japan don't get revenue from advertisements like in with Western TV, and instead relies on the "disc market" (which is quite expensive) and that devoted fans will buy it. Considering the Fate franchise is quite big (specifically in Japan) I'd assume ufotable are willing to invest on their project.

 

In addition to their reputation from works on Garden of Sinners (which from what I hear was a 'high risk project') and Zero, who not only have had a solid income on their part but also has cemented their reputation, I think they are willing to take the risk (which aren't as high as with their previous products I'd bet).
