Akira is the definition of epic. The anime is pretty good considering when it was made. It's aged fairly well but it's literally only like 1/3 as good as the manga.
Gantz is pretty messed up. I mostly just like it cause it resembles an arena style game where you never know what to expect. The story was sort of a miss for me but I still was pretty engaged well reading it.
Rayearth is a clamp fantasy magical girl story. I have a great deal of respect for clamp, they really know what they're doing.
D-gray man was another sort of interesting one. Sort of ended up dropping it and forgetting about it though.
