I've really got to watch some Vampire-themed anime. Only one I've watched and enjoyed is Vampire Knight, and that's a sort of funny show with B-movie qualities to it. But overall there seems to be a variety of classic-quality ones.

I once started Hellsing, but although stylish, I got a bit bored.
Vampire Hunter D is somewhere on my watch-list.

Have you watched Blood+? 
Does someone have something to comment on Dance in the Vampire Bund? (I recall that Geth didn't like it...)

I've been meaning to watch that. I'll probably start on it sometime today

If you watch it, watch Hellsing ultimate. It's much better than the other one.

Just watched the fight Geth linked earlier, in the original version.

I just cannot see the 2011 Hunter x Hunter being better than the oldie. It lacks all the dark aesthetics that made the old fantastic.

Well I think both versions of the fight are great. I just think the new one is somewhat better for a few reasons... Kurapika in the manga, did not look like he was disgusted with himself after the fight and the new version did what the manga did.

And again, I love the fact that in the new version, it really felt like Uvo had no chance at all in the fight!

Now this is just me being me, but I also love the way Uvo's voice actor(in the new version) did those last few lines. Like he really knew it was the end of his life, he was never going to tell Kurapika about his friends and he was fine with his death.

Uvogin was a great guy.

I liked the self-repeating monotone "kill me. ... kill me. ... kill me." more. It feels more powerful (especially coming from Uvo, as to whom overconfidence is an understatement), being near-death psychotic in a very believable way.

Overall I just think the original to be more believable. This matter of portraying most to all fights with actual pain, infinite angst and a psychotic uncertainty + the great music and aesthetic are things that make the series for me.

Still, might catch on to the manga after I'm done with the original animeeshon.

A page back I asked about the OVAs. Are they really garbage as I've heard? Should I skip them, straight to the manga?

They still had the "kill me, kill me, kill me" in the new one. What did you think I was talking about? Go watch it yourself. 

The way Uvo... just gives up, shows how much of a great person he really was.

The first OVA episodes that end the York Shin arc are just as good as the show, it has some new music, it's all good. The Greed Island OVA episodes are good too, but it just didn't really do the manga as much justice as what the show did for the rest of the series. Also it ends on a giant cliffhanger, and that really sucks.

So I say watch them, then read manga, then watch the new show. Then after all that you will be a One Star Hunter.

Anyway, I believe what my friend was referring to was indeed the Greed Island OVA. It's supposed to have that weird CGI and stuff, but ah well, I suppose that makes sense in a way.
I'm not hoping for the grandiosity of the Yorknew city arc though.

And yup, I digress, my memory served wrong about the "kill me's". I remembered the part where he says "Die, fool" at the end, and that kinda seemed cheesy.

Nothing cheesy in the old series. That's what I'm so fond of, really. It really gives a good calm psychotic feel. The new one seems a bit too fast and such.

Uvo was just as cheesy as he was in the old show, being cheesy is his thing.






He also did say "Die, fool" in the old show.

Aah, he did? Wow. My memory does not serve me.

Well at least it wasn't with all the crazy camera-work and "animation of speldour" effects.

I did love the character, and moreso how he ended.

The fact that every fan gets sad about his death, shows he was great character.

Togashi can make people like his characters, even the ones that are not going to stick around forever.

Also one more thing I like about the new show.



It has some of the best page-to-animation moments.

Wow. Looks exact.

But the shiny lighting effects and the overall "smoothness" is a bit off I think.

Still, from what I've heard, the remake tries to be very true to the manga. I respect that.

This is the best way for manga pages to truly look like manga pages in animation...
