A really solid movie with great story telling and use of art for atmosphere. It's really a huge jump from the lolz stuff we get with the main series.
I wonder if the manga's done yet. For some reason you can't find scans up to a certain chapter but I hear volumes still get released. I guess it's still pretty popular in Japan.
Tried the Light Novels, but the prose just put me off too much (fan translated.)

probably not. Most show I tend not to finish for time reasons or otherwise. full metal was kind of like that.
