I've watched it a few times this year, and it just remains amazing.

I'd say the Berserker and Archer classes have a thing or two to say.

Let's not forget Lancer would have wiped the floor with her in Zero. And Gilgamesh DID wipe the floor with her in Zero. Raider would have defeated her too (excalibur can't take out his entire army)

Lancer could have even won the fourth war if it wasn't for his master.

As in the Saber class is the only one who has managed to reach the finals in all four wars (and I am guessing the fifth one as well). That already is an impressive track record. Not to say that the other classes doesn't have its fair share of contenders, but Saber class is viewed as quite a prominent one.

Eh, Lancer had the clear advantage in the first battle, but the second time it looked like he was taking more blows than Saber. Gilgamesh wasn't much of a fight, evidently since she had just fought Berserker. Don't know the full extent of Excaliburs destruction capabilities, so if someone were to say that it could have similar effects like Gilgamesh did with Raider, I could believe that. Though were Rider to take it head on, pretty certain he would't survive.

It also depends on her master.

 

If we are talking Shirou/Saber her chances of winning against a rider who summoned his RM are really low although she might be able to defeat him even with Shirou as a master if she gets something that only Shirou can give her.

A Kiri/Saber would probably be able to defeat Rider even in his RM I think.

Nah. Saw it coming miles away, and neither did I found that the scene to be that emotional, in my opinion.

Oberstein is definitely one of my top 5 characters in the show. He was the man that the Empire needed, but didn't want. Like Batman. His death was interesting. Both theories regarding the incident--whether it was sacrifice or a miscalculation--sounds to be out of place, but are still possibilities. Think I am going for the latter though myself.

Remember that Shirou can't give her the magical energy she needs and yet she still manages to kick ass.

 

Kiritsigu was a better magus, but I don't think he was as good as Rin.

 

To put it this way, Saber can't be at 100% with either of them. If Rin had summoned her in FS/N she'd be pwning nuubs all over the place.

 

And Gil is just a hax Servant.

 

"You want to fight me? Well let me throw sh*t at you until you die." To even last 5 minutes against that dude is a feat.

Indeed, which I find him sacrificing himself to be rather meaningless, and hardly a requirement on his behalf. A miscalculation sounds more plausible, but even then making such a vital error sounds out of the ordinary. Not that brilliant figures haven't done mistakes themselves, but still, Reinhard's bedroom is the most likely scenario to get assaulted.

Hildegard is definitely a favorite of mine as well. Her capabilites regarding state affairs is greater than Reinhard's (I'd argue even greater than Oberstein's as well) and her perceptive abilities regarding individuals and political and military scenarios are astute, which certainly was a valuable asset to Reinhard on several occasitions.

Where I to select my top 5 characters it would be as follows: Reinhard, Yang, Oberstein, Hildegard and Mittermeyer.

Lancer had her on the ropes. The second fight lancer was gimped (he destroyed his own Noble Phantasm and lifted the curse on Saber) while Saber was back to full strength.

Gil just slapped her around, if anyone won't the 4th, it's him. Saber died, remember?

As for Excalibur, it's a wide beam of destruction..but not wide enough to destroy Riders entire army. A big chunk of it, sure. But not all. She would be overrun.

It doesn't compare to Ea.

 

Though you are right that she did reach the finals twice (??). What happened in previous holy grail wars is unknown. Saber is a potent class because of it's stats and abilities (instinct, magic resitance), but any class can be potent.

I'd really like to see some other saber-class servant. Frankly I find Saber overused. If Saber was male but with the same personality, she wouldn't be nearly as popular.
