You should also know anime(and manga) is just a medium, not a genre.

But it's good if you can understand that the things you don't like, the weird over-the-top-attitude and stuff, it's an acquired taste.
Sure thing NGE is one of my top three favorite anime, but I do see the weirdness of it - yet my attitude was different whilst approaching. First the weirdness made this show interesting in that I understood it was behind very different cultural premises/positions, and now I enjoy these types of quirks and pretentiousness humorously, and with care-free yet open-to-thought-about-it interest.
These weird attitudes are not however what's the show about. Neither is it about kids fighting in giant mechs. You should watch it through in order to understad that, and if you still do not, go read some Sartre.
But yeah, the best rec would probably be Cowboy Bebop. Very good stuff, in good taste (also in western standards), though with a hint of the japanese.
What's good about these japanese qualities? Well, firstly a different, very admireable and smart (tolerant, humbly self-maintained, open-minded, enthusiastic and directed towards originality) cultural attitude and way of seeing things, if you do get to approach it with a tolerant mind-set.
If nothing else, then learning about another culture should be enough to make any repulsed state naught.
After Cowboy Bebop I'd recommend something along the lines of Ghost in the Shell (1995 movie) (brilliant and tasteful), The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (if you're adult enough you'd find it at least interesting - it is tastefully made), and perhaps Darker Than Black or similars.

Better is subjective.
Also, bwmcrazy, you do know that guy is a serial rapist, no?
Hardly a candidate.
Aslo, if any show deserves a remake, it would be this one:

Btw, I'd like to hear what you think about SAO, Phi Brain and the other you mentioned.
Personally, none of them reach "great" stuatus in my opinion, but SAO and Phi Brain are especially bad. Would like to hear out a differing opinion though. Haven't watched Accel and Gundam though, so would appreciate any insight.

I think it's prettty good so far, but it's obviously rushed (the childhood parts went by way too fast). But yeah, the animation's great, the art style is very similar to the manga. Plus Dio is still awesome.

S/he probably has a job that has access to the internet, so they work long hours and can spare the time to get into that many mangas. *shrugs*

You never got into One Piece?
Me neither. I am just now reading it. I just got to the Skypiea arc.

Skypiea might be your personal favorite arc, but I didn't like it all that much. In my opinion Skypiea was far too long and too little happened.
Personally, I prefer the Water 7 + Enies Lobby arc(s), or the CP9 arc as I like to call them together. The CP9 arc really builds up the plot and tension quite nicely. A lot of epic, emotional, funny and cool stuff happenes during the CP9 arc.

I just don't get Anime. I don't understand how people can like it. It's so terrible and completely lame, it's so excessively girly, pretentious, and melodramatic. I can't stand it. I watched this crap called Ouran Host club I think it was called and all it was was a bunch of over-sexualized teenagers making lame sex jokes. It was so terrible, I coulnd't believe it even can be allowed to exist.
Please come back once you're more informed on anime and have seen more series or movies than just Ouran Host Club. Ouran Host Club is a shojo anime. Shojo means "girly". I advice you to check out some shonen series (shonen is "boyish"). Also check out some seinen anime (seinen is "manly").
So yeah, go watch some shonen and seinen series, then come back. In the mean time: Go troll somewhere else.
Well I have seen Neon Genesis Evangelion too and I though that sucked too. It seemed like it was trying way too hard to come across as deep and meaningful with all the random biblical references even though it's a show about 14 year olds piloting giant mechs. Show felt extremely pretentious and the main character is a mega-wuss. Was that a Shojo anime too?
Well I can't really say much about Neon Genesis Evangelion because I didn't like that anime either. I stopped watching it after a couple of episodes.
Try one of these (each name I list is a link to a trailer):
Cowboy Bebop
Hellsing
Trigun
Vampire Hunter D
Berserk

It's 10 thousand years after the bombs drop and for some reason the world is now overrun with VAMPIRES! What is the purpose of a post-apocalyptic setting? It makes no sense.
Oh yeah, and then there is this super strong vampire D is contracted to kill and all hope seems lost until it's revealed he's actually the son of count Dracula then he gets OMG powers and wins, lol!
I watched the sequel too and that one was even worse.

Right, may I ask with what purpose you're here in this thread? Are you just here to talk trash about anime? Or are you actually honestly interested in trying out some new, good anime series? In the latter case, check out the other titles I listed in my previous post.
