Someone please confirm that I am at least halfway through with the Fate route. Illya just joined the merry band of misfits. I am mostly reading this out of obligation rather than enjoyment, and Saber is not enough to make this route more tolerable.

I do like the premise, but as you said, could easily fall into that pit of cliched "rise to power" story that has no clue what it really entails. Well will look forward once the anime drops by.

It is good to have a pessimistic mindset. Saves you the trouble of being disappointed, with the possibility of being rewarded by it actually being good and that is never a bad thing to be wrong about.

But anyway... on the optimistic side.
I finished Golden Boy which was recommended by Isi.
My only complaint is that there's only 6 f*cking episodes.
I'm too tired to talk about sh*t but I'll say this.
It's how ecchii comedy is supposed to be. None of that other crap, this is the real hilarious deal.
The main protagonist is a bumbling idiot of a genius who's actually LIKEABLE. He's not some womaniser and so every girl that falls for him (which is part of the gag) has a good damn reason to do so.
Man, there seriously ain't enough sh*t like this. It's comedy gold.
It might look like some otaku sexist crap.
And some will argue it is.
But it's only 6 episodes and I recommend it to anybody who wants to have a good laugh.
Too bad the manga is ongoing and hasn't been updated in a year.

I finished watching Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica earlier today. I found it to be both enjoyable and interesting, I don't recall ever laughing, but it wasn't that kind of show so I'm okay with that. The show knew what it was and played its strengths very well!
The characters were all neat, it took a while for Madoka to grow on me because of how innocent she was, but she eventually did. I liked how all of the other characters were flawed in some significant way. I was glad that the writers weren't afraidSpoiler
By the time the show was over Homura was easily my favorite character.Spoiler
The plot was well-written, the show went on for the perfect length of episodes and everything was wrapped up nicely by the end of the show.
The art-style was something that I really enjoyed, I like how it changed whenever they confronted witches.
Such a great show, I now see why a lot of people in this thread praise it (I'm looking at you, Isi).
I need to sit down and watch the 3rd movie, that's next up for me.

Zero was based on a book, not a VN with three routes so it's pretty hard to compare the two. Stay night is three stories where Zero is one. DEEN tried to combine HF and UBW stuff in their shoddy Fate anime and it was horrible.

Rider in UBW anime works simply as a set piece in the story for the characters to tackle, nothing more. She is barely a character, nor is nothing gained in the story from her presence (other than the school event and which is done by Shinji's intent btw). Even Assassin in F/Z who wasn't much of a character, had an underlying purpose that he served within the developments of the plot. Rider doesn't seem to add much anything, other than for Shinji to group up with Gilgamesh.
Still room for the story to add something, but I sincerely doubt this is the case and I don't see anything relevant she could bring to the table anymore.

TBF in this case, they are saying "wait for HF movie"
Well there is truth to your words, but I wouldn't worry much. Other than a thing or two that doesn't get much resolution upon, UBW handles everything that it delves into astutely, and even things like Saber / Shirou's relationship (which was a prominet feature in Fate route) is actually handled better in UBW in my opinion (it is not explored as much as in Fate, but you'll see it for yourself once you read / watch it and how it develops), in addition to HF which mostly touches upon stuff that happens within its route alone.
Yup, I preferred Sabers closure in UBW over Fate.
