I would if said parent was the reason everything I loved and cherished was just brutally destroyed and said man was going to leave without me. He stopped being Kiri's father when he tried to leave the village without Kiri.

That's what I have problems believing. Kids don't just think the way "he wanted to go, he's no longer my father, he's dangerous, I'll kill him for the sake of everyone".

Kids go emotional. Kids cry, kids plead, kids look at themselves at what they've done wrong that could have caused it.

So unless Kiritsugu was some form of psychopath (and just feinted his earlier emotional responses), I do not see how he'd ever react the way he did.

Most kids are. And there was nothing shown that pointed to him being different. That's what I meant when I said something went amiss with the character developement. You can't have a cheerful, flustered child one second and then make him into an emotionless psychopath in the next. It doesn't fit.

 

And whilst I do not claim to be an expert psychologist, even if such a sudden and complete change in personality is possible in such a context, I would still argue that it makes for a terrible narrative flow.

Considering the fact there have been cases where a young child killed their parent because said parent was a danger to them or did something the child hated, this action makes perfect sense in what was happening.

 

Aye, but those cases are either triggered by direct physical threat, or a long going series of triggers that add up.

 

Psychology aside, if the change were realistical, or even if it only were realistical in its specific fictional framework, the narrative of it is subpar compared to the rest of the show. It's too much of a personality change too sudden with too little time for me as the audience to incorporate the changes into my expectations, or even develope false expectations the narrative could subvert. It just *plops* happens and that's it.

 

But if that is explained in more detail later on during the show, I'll leave it at that for now.

If it was not for that woman, Kiri would have been killed, by a dead apostle or by the church, Kiri was in extreme mortal danger and all of that is traced back right to his father. His father had to be killed and he took that burden because he saw first hand the damage that was caused.

At that point however he didn't know it wasn't actually just a terrible accident. He only found out his father was actually researching that stuff until he told him/confirmed it later.

Also, that woman is a complete stranger. If Kiritsugu was logical and emotional detached enough to come to the conclusion that his father must be killed if it was his fault, it would certainly come to mind that the things a complete stranger says shouldn't be taken a facevalue.

Whichever way you look at it, it doesn't make much sense.

The problem is you're trying to apply normality to a character in the nasuverse, that's a big no no. All characters in the nasuverse have some type of big baggage or are abnormal. Not even this threads beloved goddess, Rin is "normal".

I assume the VN is more helpful into easing the audience into the Nasuverse normality than the anime are.
