I'm reading the Date a Live Novels, playing Alpha Sapphire, Ar Tonelico Qoga, and Akiba's Trip(figured why the hell not, Amazon was annoying me with that recommendation) and I need to watch the rest of Girls und Panzer so I can move to anime that interest me more.

Most kids are. And there was nothing shown that pointed to him being different. That's what I meant when I said something went amiss with the character developement. You can't have a cheerful, flustered child one second and then make him into an emotionless psychopath in the next. It doesn't fit.

 

And whilst I do not claim to be an expert psychologist, even if such a sudden and complete change in personality is possible in such a context, I would still argue that it makes for a terrible narrative flow.

Take note that Kiritsugu is a mentally deranged individual, which is showcased on several occasions in the show, both in his past and the present. Utilitarianism and pragmatism has little to do with his nature, since his 'absorption' of these theories are so abundant to him that he has no clear view on moral principles or even emotions.

 

The events that transpired on the island led to an extreme case of anxiety disorder, which undergoes different developments as each event transpires on the island. The revelation of Shirley's transformation leads to excessive worry and irrational fear, the 'cleansing' of the island leads to despair and the revelation of his father being the cause of all this and will continue to be (since he admits he will continue the research) is the final mechanism that triggers his mental breakdown. It is by no means a normal behavior to be able to kill your father, but neither is it essential for a victim to suffer from prior external / internal symptoms to cause such an increase case of development. Natalia points this out herself that for Kiritsugu to be able to kill his father is extreme and not normal. 

 

Is it convenient? Yes, it acts as a bridge for the undergoing development for the character, but not that unlikely scenario that there isn't a reasoning behind it, and not something I would claim as terrible narrative flow since it is conceptual to the underlying story.

Nasuverse in an nutshell. I've read every Type-Moon VN that has been translated, played all the melty blood games that where translated and read/watched Zero and I have yet to ever see someone that could be considered "normal".

 

Even Taiga is weird and like I told Sim on steam.

One of the routes in Tsukihime had the main character rape one of the heroines(which while true he did not want to do it and didn't even enjoy it mentally, physically he did and it still happened) Nasuverse is a dark place. Even if Kiri did not know he would be purge if the church got their hands on him after the incident was cleaned, he was still almost killed by the Dead Apostles which can be linked right back to his father. In Kiris eyes, his father destroyed everything he loved, putt hat with the fact Kiri is not mentality healthy despite the illusion he gives off, no surprise.

 

Admittedly I know alot about the nasuverse so I am a bit bias XD

But I believe this is what Nasu wants to portray in his stories--utilizing radical and profound themes centering on self identity, at least in its essence. Haven't yet found time to delve into Tsukihime, but that is on my list.

While I can see how the Tsukihime anime could be an abomination to fans of the VN, in and of itself it's really not all that bad. I even found it somewhat enjoyable back in the day. Bit over 10 years now I think?

Disclaimer: I really don't care about the nasuverse in general and I'm not really into VNs. Played Arcueid's path in the Tsukihime VN, didn't really care for it. Read up on the other paths, decided it wasn't worth playing them.

There's 2 things I like in the entire nasuverse : Iskandar and Arcueid. And the Tsukihime anime gets Arcueid mostly right, so I'm ok with it. Makes Shiki a lot blander, but I never really liked him or found him interesting in the first place.

The Disapperance of Haruhi Suzumiya completely blew me away and that with me going into it very well aware of how well acclaimed it is. I expected something awesome and encountered brilliance and excellence. I'm not much of a movie kind of viewer but TDoHS completely worked from start to finish and really jsut got better and better the longer the movie continued. Very excellent use of colours and how they clearly showcased what kind of mood they were after. Soundtracks were well crafted and only added to that. It's so rare, so awfully rare to encounter something this well crafted. It's not perfect but it's pretty damn close

It will never happen that I'll say it was worth watching the endless eight but you're totally right that by watching it the movie got 2-3% better.
