Comparing it to Game of Thrones isn't *too* far off - though it tends to stick mainly with the 3 main characters instead of leapfrogging wildly between myriad factions. It's true there's more at play than the Empire and the Alliance, though. The storyline is ambitious and well-written, sort of like a cross between Shakespearean style and Old-School Japanese Animation. This must be the grandfather of politically-driven anime.
It's hard not to like Wen-Li. He's got a casual and charming personality, but also happens to be an extremely clever tactician as well. Though as made pointed out later on, he's not a fighter by nature and would rather ensure that the children of tomorrow aren't faced with the occupation of war by necessity. If it weren't for Reinhard and Siegfried's flashback sequences, I may have never cared much for them. It helps a good deal of fleshing out the relationships between both them and a certain other character, as well as what spawned Reinhard's Quest For Justice.
I'm extremely happy with how it's turned out and hope to get all the way to the end.
For those curious, the very first episode can be found here.
