Some nasty spoilers there though. (taking into account that I'm hypersensitive towards spoilers)

Unlike OP or DB it's not a funny type of shonen. You got gods (Athena, Hades, Neptune, etc..) duking it out over earth and the series follows several of the holy warriors of Athena (called saints), given magical armor and wielding the power of stars (constelations). It has some resemblance to Fist of the Northstar, but with a more homer-esque flair.
Great mythology, interesting characters and design, great potential.
Sadly, writing can be cringeworthy at times as can the art (The first series and the last are best in that regard), and the main character of both series are totaly Scrappy/Mary Sue's.
I'm almost ashamed to admit I like it.

As a big Dragon Ball and Hip-hop fan I can say they do not mix well.jreezy wrote...
Any Dragon Ball Z/Hip-Hop fans might like this.
And the fact that I dislike the FUNi ost does not help.
But this is still funny as hell.
And oh yeah it is kind of sad that Saint Seiya and Ronin Warriors are underrated since both are great series(Saint Seiya more so) but it is hard to find them nowadays.
Also Saint Seiya still does have it's "hardcore fans" in Japan so it's not mega underrated.

Anyway to get back on-topic, Cardcaptor Sakura's first theme song is the cutest thing ever.

We have an on-topic??
Cardcaptor Sakura is super cute. Though I guess I won't be relating with the anime as much as with, for example, Haruhi (say what you like - The Melancholy of H.S. has a brilliant feeling to it), I'll be checking it out soon enough.

Kanon (2006) - Felt slow in the first 6-7 episodes but then things started getting more emotional and just blew me away completely. Cried like a b*tch on quite a few occasions. Better than Clannad overall and not that far behind Clannad: AS either. 9/10 - amazing.
Lovely Complex - Solid, fun romance anime but the main characters made it beyond painful for me to watch and I really had to force myself to somehow make it through the whole thing. The exaggerated humor didn't always hit the spot for me either. 7-/10 - good, but I had higher expectations.
Here's a few more that I just finished but don't feel like explaining my reasoning behind the scoring of:
K-On! - 7/10
Zero no Tsukaima - 8/10
Great Teacher Onizuka - 8+/10

I'm a bit interested as to how the whole poaching and over-the-top gluttony thing fares with Toriko... These two aspects are what put me off the most when reading/watching the first chapter. Will the title amend some of that later on? Like giving the hunting-lifestyle or the eating-habits a purpose... Or having a differentation between poaching and hunting for food as Toriko does it?
It's just that I'm between hating the series with wrath, and giving it another go (out of curiosity)...

Well the world of Toriko as you know is all about food and people's love for food.eroeru wrote...

From the "government" to the bad guys they all have something to do with food, so yeah the hunting does have purpose, as silly as that is.
As for the hunting-lifestyle, I kind of like that there are so many kinds of Gourmet Hunters, like Toriko with the fact he will never kill something he will not eat.
But the best thing about this series is the adventure, cool characters and the food(like how it looks and the explanation of it's taste).
So I say give it 30 chapters to see if it's your thing, but it realy gets good in the Ice Hell arc and that starts in chapter 69.
It's not the best thing ever but it is great at what it does.
But really if you are looking for a long Shonen Jump series you should go for Hunter x Hunter or One Piece.

It's just that I feel there hasn't been anything good out in a couple of years - and the peak for high-quality anime seems to be the 90's and early 00's. There just isn't anything as good nor original coming out now as were all of the series back then, not to mention titles such as NGE, Escaflowne, FLCL and other big ones.

A good score, but I gotta disagree with this. I've been watching this and before even finishing the first season this became my favorite anime. Blew right past Gurren Lagaan. Prolly just cause I like the kind of show that it is, with it's romance plot and such. Not to mention the relationship between Louise and Saito is the best thing ever.

Everyone has their own system for scoring animes. A score of 8 is great on my personal rating scale and especially for an anime like ZnT that relies somewhat on fanservice.
I usually try to rate my anime as objectively as I possibly can and try to ignore the actual personal enjoyment I got out of the show. For example: I watch a ton of cheesy romance and harem animes. I don't find many of them particularly good and I usually give them a score of 4-6/10 but I still keep watching those kind of animes because I find them entertaining and lighthearted
I've given most of my favourite animes of all time a score of 9 or 8 simply because even though I love them I can still see their faults and reasons why other people might not like them as much as I do.

Not really nowadays more like always, the first anime show ever came from a manga you know.eroeru wrote...
Do I understand correctly that nowadays anime gets made only from a super-popular manga, and will not be considered otherwise? Are there major exceptions?

And it is sort of true that a manga should be "popular" to become an anime in today's world, it still does not always have to be "mega super-popular" to become one. Look at Beelzebub for what I mean the manga is sometimes popular one week and then on death row the other and that is not even getting into the fact that it's anime is crap.
And funny that you said Eva since it did have a manga before the show came out but it really is nothing like the show and it was only made to promote the show.
But even so Eva the manga is still a good read for any fan/nonfan of the series.

Hmm. Interesting. Might give the Eva manga a try - though I'm a bit scaptical towards it, as it clearly isn't what the makers had intended.
Beelzebub the anime is pretty horrible (and quite popular, as far as I understand).
I'm just frustrated that there hasn't been any quality, overall, lately. That might be because of changed values and such (tieing up with the principles of the economy), but really - ten years ago there was no such tendency as to put forth loud and mindless action-fighting-flicks constantly, while ignoring any in-depth topic or simply well-made, filler-free shows done with the love of the writer (be it "cult" anime or whatever).
That reminds me - I just can't finish the Freeza arc - I feel personally insulted by it even. It's all about the pointless recaps and a forever-on-going battle, which is overly simplistic (as opposed to the original dragon ball). There are cool parts here and there, but only when Chi-chi or some other earthling will get some "other filler" time. Actually, at the moment, I'd bring a parallel with DA:O and 2. I felt much the same here as with DB-vs-DBZ.
For Chrissake. FIVE MINUTES in-anime time gets covered by at least ten episodes.

That was my original main-frown-inducer - when I tried some episodes in the middle. That was some 4 or so years ago.
Though this time round I can give it some ad hoc explanations... For example, they will create some barrier or something around their hands when propelling the giant balls of whatever into space. And also, both seemed to be inclined to finish a fight otherwise - just that giving out full power without looking into your opponent would be a mistake (and maybe boring or unmoral or something).
