So I did check out Death Parade, and I don't like having heavy dumb relationship drama thrown in my face in the first episode, but the premise is interesting enough to continue watching it.

Though it seems odd the guy mentioned heaven and hell but the options on the doors are reincarnation and the void, seems to be mixing religions or something. I'm assuming if we're following basic Buddhist philosophy reincarnation is the bad one though. Even though the void had the demon mask...

There's a show called Tytania which IIRC is written by the same guy who wrote LOGH, which bares striking resemblance to it. Might be worth the watch.

Thanks, I'll look into it in the near future. I've been wanting to get into LOGH, but I don't want to commit to a 100 episode show at this time.

Right now catching up on JoJo and will finish the second season tonight and probably watch the new episodes in the current season. Also got Monogatari Second Season on the side where I'm slowly working my way through it. About halfway complete with it at this point and will probably keep my pace slow with that one. Don't want it to end any time soon!

I've been watching 'I Can't Understand What my Husband is Saying'


I liked that one. Only took about 25 minutes to watch the whole series though.

Haven't been watching much myself lately. I thought work would slow down after Christmas.. Boy was I wrong.

My work did, Christmas Eve was my last day and was the end of the contract that I signed.

 

Now I have to go find a job  <_<

I saw a few episodes of that one.

 

Too bad they're short episodes because from what I saw it was a great comedy.

Sounds troubling, since there are three possible outcomes in Buddhism and not two (IIRC). Well I am in no position to judge, since I haven't watched the sho and how it handles it. But keep us posted if you do continue watching it. Liked the premise but I am waiting for it to run a few episodes, and to see whether or not it is worth my time.

I agree.

 

It does indeed have an interesting premise so I'll keep watching it for now.

 

I'm curious to see where they will go with this.

Only 3 episodes in though, so who knows?

Ahh, my knowledge of Buddhism is superficial at best, and even that has eroded over time, but was there a third outcome? I vaguely recall, maybe certain branches do have ideas of a sort of "heaven"-like place? Something about Pure Land Buddhism. I still don't remember anything about a "hell" though. Just suffering due to attachment to the "self" and being trapped in the cycle of reincarnation. Enlightenment being found in embracing the emptiness of everything, emptiness of self, detachment. Yeah, I'm butchering it. But that's why my thinking is that if we're laying on some kind of supernatural intermediary entity which hands down judgments, being judged reincarnated is probably the bad one whereas "the void" would probably be ideal. But I don't understand the demon/oni mask. Maybe something specific to Japanese Buddhism? Or something else, or just meaningless symbolism like all the crosses in NGE.

 

But yeah, I don't really know if the show is drawing on Buddhism to begin with. All I have to go on is those two doors.

NGE sure loves Freud.

 

Never got the context of cross symbols that isn't related straight to Christianity.

 

Like Ergo Proxy had a few, and even when I looked up analyses of the thing they had no idea why.

 

Hell, 2nd GiG has one too.

 

No idea why though.

Yeah, great anime.

 

Didn't like the ending that much.

 

But it's not because it's sad or anything...

 

Guess it was kind of "easy" in a sense.

 

All that character development and moral maturity for nothing?

 

Maybe I just didn't get it.
