May go check "Tiger Bunny" as well! lulz
Watching it again now.
It's so good.
This is almost the perfect sales pitch for me.
Sorry she's not in it.

Yes.
If I like something enough I bought it that should tell you something.
...Aside from Studio DEEN Fate/SN...Again, impulse buy. The HMV at Bonnie Doon Mall has a surprisingly kickass anime section if you're ever up here in Edmonton btw.
Hah I was just going to mention DEENs F/SN too XD
I have a mini collection going myself. I went back to the store that has the DVD's at 50% off and got Kiddy Grade for 18 bucks. I really liked it ages back when I first saw it so I wouldn't mind giving it another look eventually.
I asked the guy if they had a DVD or Bluray for Kaiba and he just looked at me and said "You really like so obscure stuff don't you?" lol

Well, this thread is pretty obscure...
but, it's the best in the forums, so I can't blame you there. ![]()

It's true. This thread is like my home away from home, even if I do go a bit inactive from time to time.
This thread is what keeps me active on these forums overall.
Well, my Kaiju film collection is certainly bigger than my Anime one ![]()
But that's also because Anime is bloody expensive.
Spice and Wolf was probably the best deal of them all.
Both Seasons on both DVD and Blu-Ray for $45.
That's excellent.

Tiger & Bunny, and Spice and Wolf were probably the most reasonable prices I've come across so far.
If you keep an eye out online and get them on sale it's ntb. I rarely spend more then 30 bucks on a dvd/bluray unless we are talking special editions like with with PMMM.
Now when I was younger I'd have to pay 30-40 bucks just for a VHS with 3-4 episodes. Can you imagine how expensive that got? Me and my sister spent a like a whole years worth of allowance collecting the Fushigi Yuugi series. That was when anime was considered extremely obscure though. Now I could but the entire series for like 80 or less bucks. It's kind of crazy how much it's changed.
Speaking of which this anime will always hold a special place in my heart for a number of reasons even if it wouldn't be nearly as good a watch now as it was when I was younger

I watched it as a kid when I was use to western cartoons which were pretty damn kiddy, and boy could this get serious when it wanted to. Like you'd have real character deaths which could get quite emotional. Plus it was sort of neat in that my sister and I could be at each others throats and we'd still pool our money together and have a blast collecting/watching this series.
I like how it had one of its main characters be a transexual who actually had a meaningful character arcs as well as (spoiler alert)

That's smart. I've been trying to control myself more. Because I do have a tendency to impulse buy. It's been alot better as of late though.
Yeah, glad I was born halfway through the 90s. It's alot easier to get ahold of this stuff now.
Especially Kaiju films.

You'd like my brother-in-law (well he will be soon, my sister and him are engaged now) he's a huge fan of that stuff. Only one I've really seen in the last 5 years or so was Pacific Rim which I liked a fair bit.
FTR I'm a huge impulse buyer too. It can be really bad at times...

I know that the Gundam Seed Destiny DVD's are a rip off, the other day I was out of town with some friends at a certain chain that sold Video games and movies. They also had a small anime section.
I saw Gundam Seed Destiny for sale on DVD, I looked at the front and it said $15, What a deal I thought.
I turned it over and on the back it said contains Episodes 48, 49, and 50. ![]()

Well still a better deal then what I use to get. That's why you need to buy online and if possible on sale. KLK is pretty much that expensive if you look at how much you pay per episode, but I'll give Trigger a pass on that one cause damn is it a fun series.
Some of these friggen box sets though.. gotta pay an arm and a leg for. Like 400+ bucks for series? ****. That.

I like the 2014 Godzilla, but your enjoyment of it is predicated on how you feel about the Japanese films. Because it's very faithful to the pacing and eccentricties of those films more than say, the Roland Emmerich movie about the big gray iguana.
The Bodypillow was unfortunately not an impulse buy...
XD!

Keep in mind I'm very biased about format, and will buy the Blu-Ray everytime.
But DEEN Fate/ SN on Blu-Ray was $114.
Considering in total the 2 volumes of Tiger & Bunny were already going to cost me $80 ($40 apiece, which is actually a fair price) You can see why I put it back and got the DVD instead.
The Gurren Lagann Blu-Ray Set is $800. Which is heartbreaking.
A question for those who have been watching Aldnoah Zero:

Jeeze does trigger think all anime fans are insanely rich or something?
I'll get the KLK DVD's eventually but they are too expensive for me to simply impulse buy.
Right now it's mangas that are eating my wallet up. Trying to get all the Berserk ones since it's one of my alltime favorites. Thank Godoka I no longer collect Bleach and Naruto (which I have about 40 mangas between those 2 alone from when I was younger) since those have just gotten insanely long.
I also look at my SDK manga collection and wonder: Why did I even buy these? I thought it was pretty bland even as a kid :S
I should dig up my Kenshin mangas someday and go through those again at least, that was a fun series and a personal favorite when I was younger.
XD!

I might have considered it to be a good deal if it was for a shorter anime, like 12 episodes long, but the fact that wasn't even 1/10th of the anime and that it was used made it a no go.
Sometimes I think they just gouge on the pricing because they know how rare the stuff is outside of Japan. ![]()
Gundam Seed wasn't that amazing anyways. Like I didn't hate it or anything but it wasn't so good I'd spend that much just to support it y'know?

The writer of Seed/Destiny wasn't a good person from what I've read anyway.
So, I wouldn't really want to help her career.
Constantly missed the deadlines, had a beef with Cagali's voice actress so she butchered the character, Shinn's voice actor stood up for Cagali's Voice actress and that's why Kira was made the main character and Shinn became a raging idiot.
Despite those faults, I find it a shame.
I still want the Gundam Seed Destiny Sequel theatrical film which isn't happening now.

The worst DVD/Blu-Ray releases imo will always be the Disney Vault.
That thing is pure evil.
Limited release, then it takes forever to find again.
Caught up with the manga Vagabond and I have to say, this certainly is a great series.
Vagabond, which is a fictionalized tale of the legendary samurai hero Miyamoto Mushashi, is more a work of artistic interpretation rather than conveying historical facts about the medium that the manga tackles. As a history nut, I am always skeptical when entertainment alienates itself from real records in favor of integrating their own story since more often then not they are more miss than hit. This is largely the case with a lot of work surrounding Musashi, due to the lack of any accurate facts about him, and a lot of popular media have him portrayed as a legendary figure who accomplishes impossible feats and makes heroic speeches. While Vagabond is not entirely devoid from that, it is however so much more, wherein the author (Takehiko Inoue) trims many of the digressions and deepens the psychology of Mushashi, along with other characters.
In its simplicity, it is a journey about strength, survival and self discovery, wherein the protagonist--Miyamoto Musashi--starts off as an impulsive, brutish character with a superiority complex who wishes to be the greatest swordsman in the "world", who slowly but gradually matures throughout the story due to the different characters and events that he encounters in his travels. While the story doesn't brake any new grounds, and its themes made me initially want to put the book down (due to me having seen them been done to death), one can't help but notice how astutely Vagabond captures fundamental aspects like its themes and characters, and how it manages to convey these in different manners (either through fighting sequences or simply through dialog). While at its heart it comes across as an action oriented story, it is also about mediation and small life lessons that helps give shape to the narrative and raise certain philosophical questions surrounding the samurai lifestyle--which arguably I would have preferred to be explored more, but still complements the story well enough.
While Musashi is without a doubt a compelling protagonist who gets the most attention in the story to develop, the manga manages to characterize its key characters impressively--most prominently with Mushashi's greatest rival Sasaki Kojiro (who in the manga is deaf and mute though wasn't in real life). The rivalry between Musashi and Kojiro is quite a prominent feature in almost every tale surrounding the former samurai, and having the manga thoroughly explore both characters--their upbringing and road to adulthood--is given the respect and time it deserves, which helps shaping the duality and the general rivalry between them that much more satisfying to watch. I was at first dubious over the fact of having a character that cannot speak or hear, not only due to it not being historically accurate but also worried how well the character could be interpreted in the story to make him a proper character. Thankfully Vagabond is able to accurately convey Kojiro's thoughts and feelings in several ways to make it compelling and genuine.
The artwork and action sequences are excellent with reasonably distinctive aspects, allowing the large cast of characters to remain distinguishable and the fight scenes to stand out from each other. The amount of detail put into several panels is just amazing, and I can definitely see why people consider Takehiko Inoue to be the best manga artist around. The amount of detail is simply astounding, and this goes to both scenery and character illustration.
I can't recommend this manga more. If you enjoy stories centered on self discovery, value good action scenes and characters, or simply by the fact that you enjoy samurai drama, then this is something for you. It may be a bit tricky to get through the first chapters, since the manga every so slowly builds up till it finally starts with the "good stuff", but it is worth it.

Mm I usually get the Disney films I especially liked when they are released from the vault like that.
I was also a big fan of them rereleasing a bunch in theaters with the 3D
@Chewin
Did you say duality? eeeeeeeeeeee
But yeah, one thing I liked about Vagabond is how characters could actually grow during their combat too. Musashi versus the 100 fighters of that clan is still a fight I remember many many years after reading the manga. What I liked about it is how human Musashi felt even though he was an incredible fighter. It takes you through the course of that battle and it doesn't just feel like a superpower mowing down faceless henchmen like it would in almost any other story that would have done that sort of thing. Hell I still remember him only having 8 guys left where the fatigue alone was enough to drop him.

Took me forever to find Hunchback or Hercules.
Just sayin.
Anyway, look at all this Archer on this Magazine cover.
Not sure if there was an article or anything. All I know is Optimus is a Playstation.

Well I would use the word loosely. While they both have pretty identical path surrounding their entry into the samurai lifestyle, it is however shaping into a different one within the latter arcs. Wherein Kojiro embraces the lifestyle, due to the fact that he is a natural and the only thing he views himself capable of, Musashi in turn is looking past that and the real meaning behind it, and is slowly shaping into the Bushido and Zen philosophy that is integrated in the book that Musashi eventually writes.
It is of course a bit hard to interpret, due to Kojiro's nature as a mute and the lack of personal portrayal on his beliefs, but this is what I gathered from the story.
EDIT: But yes, that is certainly an aspect that eventually drew me in to the story.
uhh.. that's kind of a dumb reason to butcher a character or change something in a story
You can read more about that here if you want to: http://www.reddit.co...ds_gundam_seed/

Duality is a theme in general I find can be rather broad depending on how it's done in a story. I would say it fits in terms of Musashi and Kojiro's rivalry much for the reasons you stated. Mind you it's been a very long time since I've last read that manga.
The way Musashi develops I find incredibly interesting. Like I mentioned earlier you can actually see him growing inside his fights and not in the cheesy cheap ways that animes like Bleach try to do.
