Also I don't think they understand how the human brain works.

What are they doing exactly?

I suspect they were making a lot of things up as far as ego borderline and such. I thought that scene was pretty crazy all things considered, the lance episode was probably my favorite Evangelion episode. 19-24 of Evangelion actually was pretty insane, it was only 25/26 where I just didn't get it. Anyway, whenever voice acting comes up in anime I think of that sequence and the one after with Gendo etc. for whatever reason.

Yup. 3 years of Psychology and I can tell you Ego Borderline isn't a thing.

Nor was anything of the sort ever mentioned in Freuds original thesis about the Id, Ego, and Superego.

You'd think from all the books Anno was ripping ideas and images from he'd get a Psyche textbook.
