Well it was definitely worth it, and I quite enjoyed the portrayal of God; having the entity come into existence due to the human nature in its never-ending quest to find 'reasoning' in life. I quite like that concept, that God is not the one that created humans as it usually tends to be in most medium, but the reverse. Though would have preferred it to be a lot longer than simply 17 pages to fully give exposition on this matter.

 

God is apparently created due to humans pursuit of finding an answer to why they feel pain, sorrow and such but didn't explain why exactly these factors are solely bound to unpleasant feelings, and not pleasant ones as well. I would assume since it is after all a "human creation" of sorts, the entity follows the notion of negative bias--wherein negative information are more powerful than positive ones. But how is this applied? Is solely excluded to adult orientation? What about intensity bias? IIRC, social surroundings and upbringing have a great effect in visualizing the effects of both positive versus negative information. 

 

Anyhow, it's been close to 3 years since I last studied psychology and the human appliance of positive versus negative information, so anyone more well versed than me on this is free to comment, or if anyone has read the future issues of Berserk and can fill in the gaps.

 

This is just my interpretation on it.

I think it comes down to the nature of their world and how overwhelmingly dark it can be. This isn't to say that there isn't other forces that can be created from different less darker emotions, just that they're much less prominent. There are other forces within the Berserk universe akin to God, it's just that over time they've become much less powerful and forgotten in the world. I don't think negativity is more powerful per se, rather that there is much more negativity and pain in this world then those other emotions.

 

What I find interesting is questioning whether this world that God wants to shape is actually one that is evil or whether it is just using pain and suffering as a tool since that's really all it is limited to? Griffith who is ultimately just a tool of God (albeit a tool just as complex if not more so then a human) does horrible things, some of which many would consider unforgivable, but what of the world he wants to create? What if through the greatest atrocities one could create a world free of pain where people no longer feared death and where dreams could be given real form?

Really liking Rider and Waver's relationship though. I almost felt like tearing up when Waver was crying after Rider said Waver was his friend.

I absolutely loved Rider and Waver. Plus, Rider's first summoning of Ionian Hetairoi gives me absolute chills.

Yes, I certainly saw the "dark theme" being a major reason behind its existence, especially in regards to current events (100 year war). Though it begs the question whether the setting in which Berserk is portrayed has always been in such a state, and if so when exactly did this entity come into creation? If we apply our own history, we've seen more conflict than peaceful eras, though that comes down to the scale of conflicts. It really raises the question if any kind of struggle has empowered it, and when exactly has the entity come into fruition in human history and has started to control humans' destiny.

 

Nice observation, and I do like if that would be the case. It certainly would bring a rather "neo-utilitarian" perspective into the setting, which would have some interesting views that could be reflected by the adversaries, especially by Griffith and his development that underwent in the story.

 

Well whatever the case, hopefully further reading will bring exposition on this. Appreciate the comment, Isi!
