I pretty much feel the exact same regarding Puck as of now. X3 It's actually kind of amusing to me because even with his goofy reaction shots and adorably derpy personality, it doesn't feel jarring right now, compared against the darker tone of what's happening around him. I guess that's what makes it a very good thing the little guy didn't show up til post Eclipse. Now when he gets emotional? Yeah, the elves' empathetic link is something I think I'm going to talk about a lot if the series goes into it proper. One thing Isi and I discussed last night that I completely forgot to mention was the fact that I very much adore the fact that the series handles facial expressions being telling (especially the eyes) to what someone is really feeling. I have a soft spot for situations where either words and facial features don't necessarily match (with the latter telling the true emotions felt) or when words aren't even used, and we're made to use the expressions to gauge what's being felt.
Remember when I said I was going to wait til after I finished the prologue to hurdur and wall of text?
Yeah we can thank Guardians of Desire 3 for getting me not to shut up.
You're absolutely right about how important facial expressions are.
A good mangaka will always pull them off to tell their story.
Though not from Berserk, this is entirely what I'm on about
Of course, there are others (like Vagabond which does it loads) but yeah... facial expressions are an essential tool for mangakas.
Sh*t, it's practically stupid for one not to utilise their medium for it. Manga relies on its art as well as its dialogue, 'dem authors should make full use of their talents 
As for Puck, yeah, I completely agree. When I said "sometimes it goes too far" well...
You'll see that there's a particular side character that belongs to One Piece rather than Berserk.
But Miura is great at finding that balance.

Speaking of facial expressions I should probably warn Chewin (I've warned Ani a couple times as well) there's one part that destroys me emotionally in Berserk that I can't help but gush haaaard over anytime someone I'm talking to reaches. Sim knows what it is, I pretty much threw an entire book at him over this one part alone because of how profound I feel it is.
Berserk does a lot of things well but this is the one part that cemented the series as one of my all time favorites in fiction.
It's not even like it has a huge twist or a character does anything really unexpected, it's just how much emotion it's able to portray in doing so little that gets me. Some people would hit this part, and move on without a second thought but for me I nearly break into tears just thinking about it.
