Maybe because one is boring and the other one isn't. Also, Stardust Crusaders kind of sucks and Jotaro isn't cool.

So, I pop into this thread and see a post from Sim and like a fool I click the spoiler tag. Hello Rah, SIM, Clones and everyone else. I'm on a kick where I'm going back and watching anime I never heard of or missed. Started with the mid 90's, this should be interesting.

Yeah, been busy IRL. Started up Gintama again and I'm enjoying it much more. I don't know why but, for some odd reason I couldn't get into it the first time I watched it and now I'm hooked on it. Watched Akira( total mind f--- ), Berserk love it and I tried the old school Robotech but I just can't get into it. Think I'm going to give LotGH another chance I feel like I dismissed it to easily. Oh, nearly forgot but whoever recommend Jojo in the past, thanks it's awesome.

Indeed I am. Don't worry, I'm going to give LotGH a chance. I can be overly critical at times. I'm making a concerted effort to just try and enjoy anime in general. I have to say Gintama can be pretty deep at times. Either that or I'm an idiot and I give it to much credit haha.

Anyway, in regards to the Axes in LOTGH.

 

What Grav says is true, and what House says too.

 

In LOTGH you have these Zephyr Particles that can blow up with just one shot of a gun.

 

But it's also their armour too. Yes, you can shoot through it via weak points, but it's sort of laser proof.

 

That's why it makes most guns ineffective and that's why they'll just charge like crazy mofos at people with guns.

 

And lastly because it looks cool.

LOTGH gore is awesome.

 

There's not enough of it, but when it's there it'll blow your mind...literally.

I think last time you said something but Reinhard's first battle, am I right?

 

Like how it wouldn't work because of the pincer attack?

Yeah, my inner arm chair commando was showing. But it's all good. Its about the story, characters and the horror of battle right? So, I was being silly just dismissing it for something so trivial.

Old school Robotech (actually you should watch Super Dimensional Fortress Macross) is best macross.

Period.

 

The new ones may have more fancy animation and bigger budgets, but plot/story/character wise they are far, far worse. Especially Macross 7.

That's why Yang-da-Man suggested for the 4th and 6th fleets to regroup for a rear attack.

 

But because all generals are incompetent douche bags until after the Civil War then... yeah.

I do now. Haha, I'm used to western cinema where they have mastered the technology of Poof were there, Poof were gone. But, thanks for the clarification. Not going to lie I rarely stop to consider Space time, Relativity etc.

Using guns in a ship where one stray bullet can kill everyone in the area is stupid beyond belief.

 

It would be like a pirate going onto another ship with a cannon big enough to sink the ship.

 

So yes axes and similar weapons would be better than a pistol.

 

I haven't even watched LotGH and I can appreciate the creator having common sense in spacecraft boarding parties.

 

I'm not against melee weapons, since Battle Angel Alita is my favorite manga and they use a lot of melee weapons. The one's in LOGH look like normal axes. Are they even special? Why not a rocket hammer or damascus blade?

Yeah, I was being overly critical. I get so hung up on little nitpicks I often miss the important aspects of the show, movie, anime etc.

This disturbs me. Which is weird cause I just got done seeing Assassin's ribs hanging out of his chest because of Caster not too long ago.

Don't see the need for the weapons to be special, just b/c it happens to be Sci-fi. As for why it is an axe, eh well perhaps it has to do with that the weight of an axe-head combined with the impact afforded by the long handle makes them more effective at piercing heavy combat armor than other melee weapons.

 

Could other weapons have been used? Sure, but they decided to go with axes and it works. I'm not complaining.
