How the **** can you spell "****" here?

@Reezy - Another samurai one I'd recommend is Samurai 7. It's based on the movie (7 Samurai), but made way more "original fantasy" and anime-esque. Actually - was it Logan Cloud who wanted suggestions of anime with a similar world and feel as Final Fantasy? Well, this is it. Yet better even.

Quote his post and you'll see.

My brother recommended that to me once a while ago but I forgot about it. I'll definitely check that out.

Creative.

As to Samurai 7 - It's in top-notch fighting and expression' animations, wonderful story, great characters, a great "Japanese traditional" soundtrack.

I don't know much else to look for in an anime.

Maybe philosophy or such (Samurai don't have much to do with overthinking). But that's more of a personal quirk.

Really? Naruto x Sasuke is one of the main themes of the story.

@eroeru The only people who still believe in Bushido are dumb old Japanese politicians.

Psycho-Pass be hella dope so far tbh.

The premise is very interesting indeed. Especially given the country it takes place in. Japan has a relatively low crime rate to begin with. Maybe this is a satire piece, saying how much Japan polices its citizens already and this is sticking it to the man. Or maybe this is a warning, that people need to get along or things might have to go down this path.

I love how the last two comments synergize.

And @Galvanization - That's an interesting and good thought!
Needlessly said, I enjoy the show too. But it's probably got more to do with production value and the premise itself than characterization. The characters are a tad boring if I may say so!

Yeah, the characters themselves aren't really that interesting to me either. But regardless, this is my fave anime to come out this season so far.

It's really sad to ponder just how many anime shows would be better if they didn't showcase 15 year old girls in bikinis or showing them having constant sexual fantasys. *sigh*. So f'n creepy man, so f'n creepy.

What do you guys think of Shinsekai Yori, if you have seen it? (it's a new show right now, and though it starts off slow, it gets really really good imho)

Oh, also Zetsuen no Tempest!

(these are my top two this season, third place is probably a tie-up between Psycho-Pass and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun... though I haven't seen much of JoJo, K, Little Busters and some other interesting ones - these can potentially mess up my rankings)

@Mad Hanar - do you have a specific one in mind?

I mean, we're not talking about mere "breaks". There are less weeks of actual serializing than not.
There are 48 issues of Jump every year.
Let's look back at how many chapters of HxH there wree the last few years (except 2012)

2009 1/48 <- yes, one chapter the entire year
2010 20/48
2011 17/48

And even the few chapters he DOES release, are incomplete rough sketches, hardly inked.
Sorry, but no amount of "established artists" usually gets away with this.
Togashi and his teacher Hagiwara are exceptions to the rule.

Togashi is so "ill" that he can't work, but he chills out at Comic Market, goes off to World Cups, and spends ungodly hours playing online games. Uh-huh. Right.
Dude's a millionair married to an even richer and successful wife. He's got nothin' to worry about.

Hagiwara was exactly the same type of manga artist, who took more hiatus than actual publishing chapters, somehow gets away with it, and often puts out incomplete rough sketches. He is a close friend and mentor of Togashi, he even introduced the Sailor Moon artist to Togashi who he later married, and is specualted to also had a lot of bad (unprofessional) influence on him.

It's even worse that he absolutely refuses to recruit assistants.

Miura is different, he actually works clockwork, and simply can't pump out the chapters that fast.
It doesn't help that he's such a perfectionist and is hard to please with assisstant works, and ends up doing majority of work himself.

Dude works, just slow.
OTOH Togashi ain't working.

Are his story-making and character-creating up to par with his messy illustrations or are they still good as always?

Aside my sheer curiosity I'm asking this because maybe the guy (thinks he) can produce better results with more time on his hands.

I imagine that after writing a manga for as long as he's done, it's easier for ideas to repeat themselves and become stale. If he's managed to avoid that, then maybe his breaks have a purpose?

And nobody can be compared to Miura. That guy needs to be an inspiration to more mangakas.

His writing is always good, but really look what he gave WSJ.

This is not the work of a man who thinks having more time makes his manga better. This is the work of a man who loves Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy more than his work and fans.

Well, my point was that maybe he gives his "story" absolute precedence, and doesn't even care about how a manga is drawn, as compared to the story.

Aside that, I'm sure you're pretty much correct about him gaming and wasting time more than he should (from the fan's perspective), but really, I can see the possibility of him really caring about the story, and the story being better compared to what he would have done given he kept a tight(er) schedule.

I really think he could make a good story week by week, the breaks have nothing to do with him caring about the story.

And yes that doodle is Kite...

Unfortuately, it's not too unusual for bad art like that to be seen in other magazines. There are magazines with much less publication count than WSJ that allows some of their artists to post some really incomplete crap. Mugen no Juunin (Blade of Immortal) had some chapters sent in that looked like pencil scratches, and Mahoromatic author is infamous for chicken scratch chapters. They are usually fixed in the collected volumes, of course. Egawa Tatsuya is perhaps the worst, but everyone in the industry hates that a-hole anyways.

More established magazines are stricter than those of course, especialliy magazines like WSJ, Shounen Magazine, Nakayoshi, etc.
Normally artists wouldn't get away with submitting these sketches to Jump, Togashi is basically an exception.
Which is why so many people are harsher on Togashi more than many other artists in the industry who do the same.
He's on WEEKLY SHOUNEN JUMP, the best selling magazine in the nation for Christ' sake.

It's like, no one would care about a slacker player in college or minor league, but in the Major League?
You're gonna get stones thrown.

You make a good point, Geth.

It's just that I've seen (and somewhat experienced) that a schedule doesn't do much good for a great writer. And mangas I see mostly as story, given drawings to execute it, not vice versa.

But really, did that second pic you posted REALLY appear in Weekly Shonen Jump?? If so... well... wow!

This guy's a huge inspiration!
(to all slackers world-wide)

At least he will fix the art for the volume releases.

A schedule is all part of the comic biz. Sometimes a manga has a great story and has bad art, but still the mangaka is going to be thinking about the art first and the story second.

Togashi, Oda, Miura, Miyazaki, Takeuchi, Arakawa and Clamp all these mangaka think that way.

But enough about good mangaka, let us take a look at what an a-hole Egawa Tatsuya is.

Yes, Egawa Tatsuya, known for Tokyo University Story and Golden Boy.
I won't go into details, but you can find mountains of crap online I'm sure.

1) He bashes and talks sh!t about pretty much every successful people before him, including Tezuka Osamu, Fujiko F Fujio, Hayao Miyazaki, etc. You know, some of the most nationally beloved artists of all time. Calling them names, hypocrites, morally challenged and warped childrens' minds, etc.
2) In the same breath he praises himself and his own works, even boasting he can do better than those legends, and bashes anyone who criticizes him as idiots who just don't understand his greatness.
3) He often gives up on his works, starts slacking off with half-assed pages, and even just throws out chicken doodles in the "I don't give a sh!t anymore lol" manner.
4) He vocally insults video gamers, he calls them morons with no thoughts of their own, and anyone who plays Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy are idiots.

List goes on.

Some of his *cough* awesome *cough* comments.

"Ryoutarou Shiba (one of the greatest novel writers in Japanese history)'s Above the Clouds is boring. I can write it better."
"Doraemon ruins children"
"Anyone that plays DQ or FF is a moron"
"Anyone that plays Mario is a moron"
"Fujiko F Fujio is an evil man who preys on children"
"Reading novels will ruin a person"
"De Vinci isn't all that good in math. And I think he's a ****ty writer too"
"See, I have three brains, each for Logic, Literature, and Art. No one else is like me"
"Tezuka Osamu is the devil of manga"
"We have one thing in common, we both hate schools. You hate school because you're stupid. I hate school because I'm too smart for it"

Pretty much the most vocally hated guy in the entire manga industry by both his peers and readers.
