So I caught up on the last 3 episodes of Log horizon. This is getting kinda dark I have no idea how this season is going to end.

Ruffy dies

Shirou dies

Akatsuki dies

Everybody dies

It's a horrible adaptation of the manga

You shouldn't have watched it.

...

Oh wait!

That's Akame ga Kill!

LOL

Hey everyone in the Akame ga kill anime doesn't die. Due to bullshit of colossal proportions but the point still stands.

I checked out the first 3 Volumes of Berserk. Good lord, you guys weren't kidding. It's unapologetically dark, and carries a visual detail during the action scenes that isn't seen very often. Guts himself shows his Kratos-y side even moreso in the manga due to a certain tagalong companion. There's obvious contrast between the two. Someone who feels emotions so intensely, and someone who's either devoid of them, or supressing them entirely.

Considering his upbringing, I'm not entirely surprised how he turned out. He's someone who was literally born in a world of battle and blood from day one. He lives for passion, himself, and not much else. There is a certain level of theming and depth, but it's still an action-heavy dark adventure first and foremost. Watching the anime of Berserk would be equivalent to playing a video game based on a movie - you're not really getting the full experience(or at least based on the episodes I'd seen).

It's a damned good Manga.

@Dom

Aye, that it for sure is. Keep on reading; the thematic materials develops gradually along the story, and while it indeed is action heavy, there are underlying elements that are conveyed through different means as the story goes along.

You should continue past the first 3 volumes. Trust me, you will be amazed by what comes after. The first 3 volumes are a tad bit generic in comparison to the later volumes.

The problem I have with comic books is that unlike novels, there are never enough words or space to set a stage for the audience, whether it be in terms of sound, atmosphere or a feeling. In novels you've got whole pages of writing that solely consists of setting the mood and building each scene in great detail for the reader and draw the frames from which the imagination can work from.

What I love about animation, cinema, even an interactive medium like video games, is how they are able to tell a story without words.. through the audio, or just the environment itself. In video games, atmosphere can count for a lot, and it's something you can't find in a non-interactive medium, as Christophe Gans discovered to his smelly baguette-eating cost,  which is what makes video games stand out and one of the many reasons why film adaptations of the latter never work out. They usually forget to consider that it's important to provide interpretation with a personal touch that distinguish it, and make it feel like a new experience for all audiences, while also remaining faithful towards the source material.

I don't find comics to be all that engaging, I used to, anyway. I loved the Batman comics and graphic novels but comics don't do it for me anymore.

I think Miyazaki succeeded, anyway, at least at what he does best. Providing a competent female lead with a good supporting cast, a gorgeous art-design and fascinating creatures. It's a stamp of Miyazaki's style and I thought it was excellent as always.

That's why I recommended Vagabond and Berserk.

Lots of panels where themes and narrative are just carried through the art.

If I wanted to get you into manga with lots of dilaogue I'd say read Medaka Box and Gintama.

i,e

Spoiler

Without context, it isn't much, but this panel is so powerful it can make Goku sh*t steroids.

Oh and it's Berserk art.

Ani and anyone who hasn't finished.

Don't read.

But in the end, it's whatever floats ya' boat. But if you ever decide to get into manga I'd definitely say try Berserk or Vagabond first.

Vroom Vroom is busy enjoying his PM session with Mr. No Touch.

That said, I do plan to do a full write-up on Date A Live in about 8 or 9 hours, so keep an eye out for a potentially long post.

Almost finished watching Toradora -- Noticed there was a dub of it with Bosch and Strassman, though I'll have to say that the voice of the lead (relatively unknown up-and-comer actor) is actually pretty excellent. It also helped reading a reddit AMA he did revolving around the recording process of the dub. In a similar fashion to that of Clannad, it might have actually managed to spawn a tear or two from me. I'm sucker for good romance, really...

Oh boy, guess I got a lot of stuff to write when I finish writing the Steins Gate stuff. So many feels and thoughts to consider.

Happy Birthday to Vroom! Hope you're having a good one.

Sim, I hereby promise, that Bebop will become the priority after Steins Gate.
Think it's about due time for it anyway, I still had some notes left from the draft I wrote that got deleted by stupid PC antics.

My condolences. Please be sure to leave a copy of the finished script at his grave, only then may his soul rest. I know that's what he would have wanted.

Toradora is my second favorite anime (was my favorite for a very long time) so I am glad that you are enjoying it. The feels hammer is getting ready to come crashing down (if it hasn't already), so brace yourself! I was going to watch it dubbed after I finished it the first time, but I couldn't stand the dub, the characters just didn't feel/sound right to me in the dub. I will say that Toradora is the only anime that has ever made me say "oh s***" out loud.

You and I need to talk more, I love romcoms too. You might consider trying Angel Beats! next if you haven't seen it, it has a lot of comedic and feely moments too.
