Fleas would be a small price to pay to be in with Holo.

Toradora is my second favorite anime (was my favorite for a very long time) so I am glad that you are enjoying it. The feels hammer is getting ready to come crashing down (if it hasn't already), so brace yourself! I was going to watch it dubbed after I finished it the first time, but I couldn't stand the dub, the characters just didn't feel/sound right to me in the dub. I will say that Toradora is the only anime that has ever made me say "oh s***" out loud.

You and I need to talk more, I love romcoms too. You might consider trying Angel Beats! next if you haven't seen it, it has a lot of comedic and feely moments too.

I've spend my time with the dub and I'd say in terms of providing a emotionally engaging experience, it does its job well. I can see how it might not fall well with most people. It's important to always consider that dubbing, acting, phrasing, speech patterns are different between East & West. Erik Kimerer, voice of the protagonist in the dub, said as much in a Reddit AMA
"But the thing is Japanese people have a different culture, and a vastly different language, thus having different emotional inflections in speech. I come from a theatre background as much as a voice over background, so my approach is very much that. You're always going to get a different performance with different actors each with their own approach. We do try to match the emotion in the scene and make the character sound as natural as possible. It's a very quick process, though. I explain the dubbing process in another post, and this is done to save time and money. As you can imagine, one person in the booth at a time means you're going to be relying on your own imagination to react off of a character. Sometimes your scene partner won't have recorded the scene you are working on that day, yet, so you have to rely on your own intuition to make it work."

I think what he's saying makes a lot of sense, and it also applies to the differences between JRPGs and western-RPGs, most notably in terms of the cultural approach to storytelling and how it varies between both sides. There are a lot of factors though -- It's hard to capture that sense of emotional state of mind that feels somewhat alien and distant from your own, like how a Japanese dub probably would be of things like Mass Effect or Dragon Age. In terms of the acting, and the emotional content, I think it succeeds quite well at that. :)

As for romances -- It's like I said, I'm a sucker for a good love story, I usually prefer them as building blocks that provide layers to the narrative's characters in question. Toradora is entirely a romantic-drama, but I think it does well at it does because it tries its best at not adhering too much to clichés or tired love triangles. Sure, there are women in the story who fall for the same gentlemen, but it never gets to the point where it becomes an obnoxious dick waving competition, to stroke the male audiences ego. It's just a story about a bunch of young naive high schoolers, experiencing the harsh truth of what its like to be a teenager.
Heck my avi is from a puzzle-platformer where the plot is entirely centered around the difficulties of relationships. I think one of the many reasons why I like a good love story, like say Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Clannad, Steins Gate, even Silent Hill 2 or the Persona games etc. is because they deconstruct the complex set up that is human nature. Relationships are complex, they are never as straightforward as we want them to be and they don't always grant us that happily ever after. Life places us in the middle ground, where we can acknowledge that life may just be like a beauty pageant, where we're often going to be outdone by someone prettier, smarter, or just plain luckier, but if we get up on that stage and be ourselves, everything will turn out fine.

Essentially, I think that's the best way one could summarize a story like Toradora anyway.

As for Angels Beats. I've seen it. Found some of its comedy to be quite funny, actually. The slap-stick really works well despite the grotesqueness of the characters dying horrific deaths at the expense of it... Still pretty hilarious "Give my love to Jesus, man".

I get that, it just didn't click with me is all. I don't think the voice actors are terrible or anything like that, I just felt like the voices didn't match how I perceived that the characters should sound. Dubbed versus Subbed is just one of those mixed bag things for me, I don't prefer my anime one way or another, there are some anime that I like better dubbed: Angel Beats!, Hellsing:Ultimate, Mobile Suit Gundam, Spice and Wolf, Death Note and Eden of the East. Similarly there are those that I like better subbed: Clannad, Toradora!, Noragami, Kill la Kill, WataMote, and PMMM. Just a matter of preference in the voice acting and how I perceive it to go with the characters is all, I'm genuinely happy that you enjoy Toradora!'s dub :D  To each their own, my friend! *raises wine glass for a toast*

I think you might enjoy Golden Time. It's a Romance/Drama/Comedy/Mystery and has a really interesting antagonist whom I felt sympathy for. It deals with college kids who are trying to get by and deals with their relationships.

I think that's a healthy and very respectable viewpoint to have towards that particular subject.

And I'll toast to that gladly! :)

That's why I recommended Vagabond and Berserk.

Lots of panels where themes and narrative are just carried through the art.

If I wanted to get you into manga with lots of dilaogue I'd say read Medaka Box and Gintama.

i,e

Spoiler

Without context, it isn't much, but this panel is so powerful it can make Goku sh*t steroids.

Oh and it's Berserk art.

Ani and anyone who hasn't finished.

Don't read.

But in the end, it's whatever floats ya' boat. But if you ever decide to get into manga I'd definitely say try Berserk or Vagabond first.

lol

So much for examples.

I hope you get to it soon. It does a lot of things that other anime does, but adds a spin to it. Like having the main characters be students, but make them go to College, instead of attend High School as is typical of most anime. Also, Golden Time's beach episode, I remember thinking "ugh, obligatory beach episode", not quite  :P

I think that's a healthy and very respectable viewpoint to have towards that particular subject.

*Imagine Jaws from 007 MoonRaker toasting, I was trying to find a gif of that, but Google has none*

Oh, have you finished Toradora! yet? I want to make a comparison to Golden Time, but I don't want to accidentally spoil the ending for you.

I am currently looking for a good comedy/slice of life/romance anime which I can partially pay attention too.( I play games while watching anime a lot of the times) Any suggestions?
