Seeing how Berserk is written I do think she'll be integral later on.

 

I don't think Miura is the sort of person to develop this harem just for it to be lolz.

Oh believe me, that is a straw that I am desperately grasping at. As much as I'd like for that to happen, and could make sense within the story, I severely doubt it will and I'm rather certain Miura will ultimately go with the "hero gets the girl" trope when it comes to Casca.

 

Nothing wrong with that, since Gatts and Casca's bond is the "strongest" in the narrative, but I personally prefer Farnese over Casca as a character and plus--as you said--having her serve as a role to heal that hole Gatts has for Casca and the memories of the Eclipse, could be a nice plot point. Especially since Gatts has had characters around to shape him and the way he has played a part in Farnese's character development, it is simply too juicy for me not to see them getting it on together.

 

Also I hate teasing, and Miura does it a lot when it comes to Farnese and Gatts, especially in the later chapters!Graaaargh!

Yeah, I'm especially careful when considering even putting these shows on the list to one day be watched. Lots of approval and preferably from the right people do make it easier to consider them but otherwise.. got way too much else to watch

I get preferring Casca over Farnese, and it's something that annoys me too. Here we have a great female character who's turned... well... into that for at least 220 chapters. Maybe we're supposed to feel like Gatts or something in that regard.
 
It wouldn't surprise me if Miura took it that way, but I don't think it'll be an easy thing. Casca is definitley not going to just "wake up" and if she does wake up, there'll be loads of trials and tribulations.
 
I'd be SUPER dissapointed if Miura decided to speed things up (LOL) and just have Casca wake up and go all lovy dovy and sh*t.
 
So dissapointed I'd probably break something....

Either way, I have no doubt that Farnese will play a larger role in Gatts' life.
 
But first... they need to get off the damn f*cking boat.

Yes, in turns of character development for the side characters, Farnese has one of the strongest ones and which has been quite engaging, I've found. She is easily my third favorite character, right after Gatts and Griffith.

I agree, I doubt Casca's "awakening" will be anything but a joyous one, and might even bring more trouble for both her and Gatts. I can understand Gatts infatuation to Casca, b/c not only was she his lover for a time but also she is hisnonly link to the past with the Falcons. This ultimately makes him blinded by remembrance, since he subconciously wishes to go back to that time in any way possible and sees Casca as the only gateway for him to do so. Since he so desperately struggles to obtain that goal, he isn't properly able to see what the characters in the present and those that follow him are truly doing for him. Farnese herself shouts this out on Casca on the boat, which is a part I love. Obviously it is not Casca who is deliberately doing it, considering her state, but she is causing harm for Gatts and most likely will continue do so in the future as well.

While having Gatts and Casca rekindle their past relationship is nice and all, I personally don't wish for this to happen. Not b/c I want Gatts to hook up with Farnese, but more in the lines of what it would mean for Gatts in terms of his development. The impression I get is; Gatts wants to 'return' to that Golden Age, Casca doesn't. Everything she loved has been burned to ashes. Both Griffith, her friends, the memories that she personally suffered during the Eclipse, and Gatts himself is a different person than before. What I would personally like to see is Casca rejecting Gatts feelings, as a means for him to finally let go of the past and start to move forward. Him already reflecting upon having found companions again is one step towards that goal, but Casca is still that one person who holds him chained to his 'dream'.

It is of course possible for them both to move forward together, there is certainly potential there. But personally I'd like for Farnese to eventually fill that role, especially since her development in the narrative bares some resemblance to Gatts'.

Wish I could go further, but this post already turned a lot longer than it should have, and I can't afford procastrination during the day, since I should be studying and not gushing about Berserk. Blargh!
