Samurai 7 is solid 7.5/10 for the first 6 episodes. It has the plot of Korusawa's Seven Samurai but with futuristic setting and characters are modernized and interesting for even that 22th century taste of yours.

I can't speak for the manga, but the show got really ridiculous in its execution (I can't really elaborate without spoiling things, but I have specific examples) A spoiler free one would be the bad guys always explaining how their attacks work so that Ichigo can figure out how to defeat them. For what it's worth, I enjoyed the start of it, but I hadn't seen any truly good anime back at that point in time with the exception of Death Note. I got to episode 189 when I dropped it, I regret sitting through that much of it, because there was never really any character development and most of it was filler

I haven't seen any of them yet, because I'm waiting for Unlimited Blade Works to be finished. Mr. House can tell you what order they are best watched in if you are interested. I've forgotten other than that Unlimited Blade Works is best watched first if you want to be surprised.

I think Log Horizon has swordplay, it is fairly well liked in this thread (I still haven't seen it though). Sword Art Online is another show with swordplay that is good, but only if you stop at episode 14, it falls apart beyond that point (though I was still able to enjoy it somewhat). 

 

Noragami is one of my favorite anime because of its sense of humor, it has a God that fights with a spirit that transforms into a sword. 

 

Kill la Kill has a lot of dueling as well and is quite unique.

Humanity has declined is brilliantly messed up. Grav's banned from watching it because he's too incomprehensible already I don't need him any worse.
