You also don't have Pokémon yet.
And you haven't fulfilled your 200 pages of "Legend of the Galactic Heroes is the best anime ever."
You were at 196 before you gave up.

You mean times saying that.
Not pages.
Also.
So dumb.
Sim.
So very dumb.
LotGH is the best anime ever made.
So that was 197 times saying that right?
Only 3 more times now and you have to buy a 3DS and Pokémon.

Grey characters are certainly a more "approachable" side for me as well when it comes to fiction, though I also have my fair share of saccharine heroes and evil characters that I love.
Ultimately it comes down to how well they are written within the framework of the narrative that decides my attachment towards a character, moral alignments aside. Wherever they place within the line of idealism and cynicism matters little to me unless they are clearly established and characterized; wherein the story properly explores their personality, agency, external / internal conflicts, connections to other characters, etc.
Bleach in a nutshell:
Spoiler
And as a follow up:

Chewin not being into KLK
Scrub level! Can't be bothered wiith such abhorrent ideas
Eh, it's not a show for everyone as always is the case
I'll just point and look at you with a frowny face but that's about it
And I am constantly getting the short end of the stick.

Yeah, that all comes to it too.
I wouldn't like a grey character for the sake of him/her being grey.
But ultimately writing a grey character involves some sort of skill, so they usually come with the package.
One character that I'd mark as 'grey' or well... not entirely 'bad' is that stupid-ass Bishop from LOTGH.
If there's any complaint I have about the anime it's him. He's so bland and one dimensional in comparison to the other men of ambition in the series.
@Poop haters.
Obviously you haven't had to wipe your butt with a used sponge before.
Or a newspaper.
Or nothing at all.
Ah, Southern Morocco is awesome.

It does, which is also why many grey characters I've stumbled upon are sh*t.
To be fair though regarding the Bishop, he is more of an catalyst that serves to further illustrate the flaws of a theocratic system, rather than being a proper character himself. He could have certainly been developed better and having him being close to unambiguously evil didn't add that much depth to it as I'd like, but it wasn't a total waste.
Puck from Berserk is kinda similar. As much as I love his comedic side and fourth wall breaking, he is a poor character and simply exists as a foil towards Gatts' byronic personality and development. He can't stand on his own at all, hence why Miura has decided for Puck to fall into him simply being the comic relief character. He had some potential early on, but now he is just in a limbo. Always time for him to develop further (considering where the party is heading towards), but as of now he isn't that much to speak of.

I should perhaps state that I consider both Ravel Puzzlewell (PST) and Kreia (KotOR2) to be some of the best grey characters ever created.
Interesting bit of trivia that makes me happy (in which I show I am far too much of a Chris Avellone fangirl) but for those that have played all three games I'm about to mention: Chris has stated that he views Ravel as a tree, whose branches extend to other stories he has told. Both Kreia and the Seer from Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter (seriously, play HoW even if you don't like the main game) are considered branches of Ravel, so it was no surprise that I loved them dearly.
Gintama ![]()

I loved this episode.
Pff, you love him as well.
Don't deny it!

H-hold on a moment! You are clearly misunderstanding things, as usual Paragon.

I was not aware of that. That is rather neat indeed.

Oh sure, but even Rubinsky had a larger role to play. Albeit I was/still am disappointed by how he left the arena but it was very fitting given the nature of the narrative and how the end wasn't the climax but the slow transition to another era.
So even though the Bishop was all that, I think he could have used more. But to be fair, LOTGH's cast is huge enough without ANOTHER character that's fleshed out.
As for Puck.
Yeah, I did warn you, he is overshadowed later on by almost everyone else.
Poor thing, almost makes you forget how important he was in keeping Gatts 2 inches away from the "completely lost" line.

Kreia is probably my favourite female character of all time.
Anima has some serious good taste
+10 approval.
P.S
Chris Avellone should just become the Gaming Industry's writer for everything.
Rin can literally be applied to any situation.
@Rah
Indeed.
Paragon is a silly person.
