I'm not going to touch the manga until I finish the anime. Also, what chapter should I start with? I heard that the anime skips some stuff, so I don't want to miss that.
Well, you learn things about Gowther in the manga later. (the anime probably won't get to it this season)
I think the anime adaptation is doing a pretty good job not skipping things. The only thing I noticed was they changed Gowther's introduction (there was some group of annoying kids, not really important, his characterization in the anime is also good), and Veronica was also introduced earlier, which helped characterize her better. That was way back in Ch 27 though. Gowther's part is after the fight festival.
Also Threader/Slader's part in the current arc of the anime seems to have been cut.
I just checked kissanime, and it looks like the version I downloaded. It's from the same source. Episode 25 & 26 look much better than anything before it, it looks like the Overture movie.

Okay, chapter 27 then. Is there anything earlier that was missed?
So here I go again digging semi-hold posts but I feel like adding something.
For Aria the Animation (ie season 1), I would say the first 10 episodes were good but nothing really special for me, where some of the 'morals of the day' felt a little heavy-handed, and sometimes it felt like they were going down a checklist of typical anime scenarios (beach, onsen, etc)
Though the unexpected fantasy-in-my-sci-fi element with the cats was interesting, and episodes 11 and 12 in particular were very nice. If the sequels keep going in that vein I will be quite pleased.
But that of course will have to wait, as this is midterm week.
The beach and hot springs episodes do indeed have a very trope-y premise, but I think they do well in avoiding the general pitfalls of these scenarios. It's a very "Aria" take on them, and it doesn't feel too much like what you'd usually get in your average everyday anime. The series was bound to get episodes set at the beach and at the hot springs too. Because water. Amano, the manga's author, seems to really have a thing for water. After Aria she went on to make a manga about high-school girls in a diving club and living in a coastal region. Every other chapter is a beach chapter.
But that's not really what I wanted to talk about. This mention of the hot springs episode made me remember one thing I wish they had kept from the manga : the fact that Alicia really likes to drink. And I don't mean water. And she can hold her liquor inhumanly well too .
Spoiler
Those 6 bottles on the table? All empty, all Alicia.
And when she goes back into the hot springs, she opens up another bottle of course.
And barely shares it.
And obviously drunk Akira in a later chapter gets mad at Alicia because she can drink more than her and not get drunk at all. I dunno, it's a silly detail but I really wish they had kept it.

Oh, yeah, King's fairy dog is introduced in Chapter 17, and the doctor's daughter has a bit more of a role in the Baste dungeon arc before that. (chapter 12/13)
All those seem pretty minor to me, but if you're really concerned about it, it looks like you may as well start from the beginning.
White subs are innacurate most of the times and go way too fast.
Ugh.
I need to write down an FAQ as an image on Photobucket so I can link it anytime someone wants to watch LOTGH xD
So the version I downloaded is exactly the same as the one on Kissanime and YouTube but it's 1080p.

The hot springs episode does have the advantage of being in a decrepit old building (that has to be a safety violation) instead of the traditional Japanese inn that they're usually in. That kind of brought it back around to the fantasy element of the series that I do enjoy. The beach ep also kind of touched on it with the whole "Neverland" thing, and yeah, the series as a whole is less comedy and more saccharine sweet than most anime would be in similar situations, which partly takes it away from the usual rom com fanservice stupidity of the typical 'beach' episode. That does make it a bit more reliant on those sappy 'morals of the day' having an impact though, with varying success for me personally.
That's too bad how they cut stuff, wasn't it soda in the anime? lol. Oh well. (It also felt like they cut stuff with Al-- he shows up for one scene in that cat episode and already Ai knows all about him in the last episode? Feels weird.)
By the way, I also like the naming convention in this show: Akari, Aika, Alice, Alicia, Akira, Athena, Ai, Ami, Akino, Akiko, Akatsuki, Al, Woody (!) and Mr. Mailman (!!)
But in general, BL is easier to enjoy than GITS. I think the majority would put BL over GITS in their preference list.
I think.
Like LOTGH. It's an 110 space opera about politics and war. 70% Is dialogue and the rest are battles that aren't even...err... action-y?
It's my favourite anime out there but I'd be delusional to think everybody could enjoy it.
Personally I think GitS would have more universal appeal, it's a classic and the standard anime I think of for "anime that people who don't like anime might still like."
Black Lagoon is more like the anime that people who already love anime will love even more, it kinda lives off of that over-the-top hype like Kill la Kill. Could be totally off-base though.

Yeah... actually, I think you're right.
Just that I'm so used to hearing "I didn't like/get GITS for x y and z" that I have a sort of cynical approach towards it.
Still, it's not the easiest show to get into whilst BL has that sort of punch to it that surprises both anime and non-anime watchers.
Both feel like you aren't really watching a cartoon series.
P.S
HxH
Spoiler
So Gon and Killua are left alone like the OTP they are to fight in the Arena. I really hope this isn't it for Leorio and Karp for now, I prefer their relationship to that of Gon and Killuas.
Plus, Leorio is still my favourite even if he's had the least development
Oh no, it's not the end for actual best girl Kurapika.
As for Leorio... well, there's a little more, then it'll be a looooong while...
Spoiler
After the Yorknew arc, both drop off the map pretty much completely, and only Leorio comes back during the final arc. Though it is glorious when he does.
You should just get used to the show being about Gon x Killua mainly. :/
I like those two, I do. Gon's a pleasant surprise because I really thought he was gonna turn out to be the... errr... you know, shounen idiot but in the Naruto sense and not the likeable idiot like Luffy.
lol Luffy... love the dude.
But yeah, he's cool, Gon, that is.
Brave, stubborn, can adapt and most of all isn't morally righteous. I hate that in any character, no matter how well they're written.
But yeah.
Gon is cool, I like him. Killua too.
Just that I prefer Leorio and Kurapika... which btw I'm so disappointed didn't end up a girl ><
