It's awesome but not for everyone so give it a few episodes and see if it's something for you.
Yup. SSY was an absolute surprise for me. It's another one of those cases where it does you good not to research too much into it before checking it out. But like Rah said, it won't be for everyone so testing the waters would be a good move. 
Yeah I can recommend it, it's not bad. It diverges at the end, manga is still ongoing.

This reminds me -- That film has a dub, I noticed, with Chris Patton. I feel compelled to check that one out, as much as I do like Zoro's Japanese voice, voicing that police samurai bloke (forgot his name now).

U wot, mayte. Chris Patton is awesomesauce. In fact, he's dubbed characters that were voiced by the Japanese Gintoki before. Like Graham Spector in Baccano! He's also played a deadpan character that feels more or less as quirky as Gintoki, so I'd say I'm intrigued to at least hear it out. Plus his frickin awesome in Welcome to the NHK and as Greed in Brotherhood. So there! D:<

The dub sucks. Mostly. There are a few good voices here and there.
