But I'll reserve judgement until I actually see what they're saying.

 

I'm far more into the noob category when it comes to experience. But with one year of anime I've seen all sorts from terrible to godly. I can't really give a more balanced opinion than that, but if I were to compare gaming to anime then it's simpler.

 

Fact is, nostalgia and blind favouritism hurts a lot of things, especially personal evaluation of other shows. F*ck, how many people will blag of anything that comes their way for not being Cowboy Bebop? It's terrible.

 

Don't get me started on obnoxious LOTGH fans who'll say "all anime is terrible" without flinching.

 

So yeah... that's all I can add really. Saying "this generation" or "that generation" is just nonsense for me since I only ever started a year ago; but because I'm a nerd and I know how nerds work sometimes I can pretty much guess how the thought process lots of them works via my experience in the gaming community.

 

All in all... nerds are largely a bunch of really sucky people.

Podtaku is super chill. They mostly make jokes and have fun to say the truth.

The whole 'stuck in between' thing is really a huge part of Rock's character and it's really great.

 

So that's why it kind of bothers me when peeps say "he sucks." I mean yeah... he does... in the "I can't shoot guns like Revy does" way.

 

But you gotta admit he has balls/reckless/stupid.

 

There is no chance in hell that I'd EVER talk to the head of the Russian Mafia like that

 

He gets even better in Roberta's OVA anyway.

Bingo. I mean yeah, it's easy to think Rock and Benny just aren't as "cool" when put up against basically the rest of the cast, but I've got some appreciation for his growing ability to socially manipulate a situation to work in his favor. That last bit was Balalaika was golden and just showed how much he's grown in the twilight, as Yukio put it, from the first episode.

 

I guess it kind of makes me laugh because I kind of think I could make a long tirade about it cause the whole group of conversations pretty much nailed exactly what BL is about when you look past all the fun gunplay. If I'd have to hazard a guess, I'd like to think Stormheart isn't too far off in thinking the series might have done well in the East because it's so Western focused. I'll more than likely get to reading the manga myself once I get through Roberta's OVA, and then cry for around a century when we have no more for now.

 

I'd definitely like to keep my fingers crossed that even a massive success in the West would account for something, and we will get a third season.

The guys at Podtaku seemed to not be very impressed with what's come out recently.

 

I guess I'm seeing the past with rose coloured glasses a bit. I haven't been into anime for all that long (about four years) and have spent a lot of time watching all that I've missed out on before (a friend let me borrow from his collection). Naturally, I only watched stuff which looked interesting to me. So I was watching all the awesome stuff from the last 20 years or so, and it now seems like I have to wait a long time for anything really good to show up.

 

There's definitely been some solid 7/10's over the last year, but nothing that made me feel that special "I need more of this in my life" feeling. It doesn't help that the high school setting is generally a turn off for me, but at least the overwhelming fanservice has calmed down a bit. I want to see more adult orientated anime. I know the biggest demographic watching anime is high school kids, but the people who got into anime in the 80's and 90's are in their 30's and 40's now. There's got to be a pretty good base for more 'mature' shows.       

 

I'd give Zankyo no terror as an example, it was a good show, but it had so much more potential.

There's only one anime live this year that gave me that special "I need more of this in my life" feeling. Parasyte the Maxim. You should be watching that.

Log Horizon having one of its best episodes so far this season and hopefully it can keep this kind of quality until the end and this season will have be good

I disagree, they're mostly just going to tell you what they like and dislike when other people hide it, but when people hide it, you get festering wounds that end up worse than the initial blow would have been so I can't say that's better.

In all seriousness I came from a mainstream sort of background, where Super Mario was considered potentially subversive and destructive. Super Mario. I get that nerds quarrel over matters related to being nerds all the time, but that has to be compared to a world where there the gaps in understanding are so vast that it's a wonder people can connect at all. The people I knew who had environments more friendly to those sensibilities probably had different issues to contend with, sure, such as being ultra defensive about an anime or something, but people blasting backstreet boys at you and wondering why you weren't partying more wasn't one of them.
