Huzzah.
The fabled "Gohan hangs out with Orphans" episode.
Toei still loves their awful filler kid characters.
They still show up in filler arcs and episodes of One Piece.

Unrelated. But this goes back to something you said a while ago.
Shounen stuff really is basically just Superhero comics aren't they?
Which makes Gintama Japanese Deadpool.
I don't blame you.
I don't want to talk about Toei filler kids either.
And yes, kind of.
Poor Asuna.

*snip*
She's the largest saving grace of the show, without her.. I don't think I'd bothered all the way through!

That's why I bought the first volume of SAO Progressive.
All about Asuna.

Even Kirito's trap avatar in GGO is more popular than Asuna.
Personally, I like Asuna mainly because of Haruka Tomatsu.
Have you guys ever considered if Asuna would still seem like a good character in other animes? Without so many bad characters to compare her to?
She's just less involved in the new series. Fans are more interested in new characters and their stories.
It doesn't mean Asuna's character is "bad" in anyway. Just simply "been there, done that, and let's move on."

She wouldn't stand out as much that's for sure but in most shows she would do well enough

Honestly. SAO doesn't have particularly bad characters (Aside from Fairy Dances villain)
Just a bad protagonist that steals all the good qualities from them.
Like Sinon. She was great when first introduced.
Then came the Calibur arc, and she became terrible.
Really take away Kirito and his awful skill of turning most things around him into some mindless garbage and things wouldn't be bad.
Still plenty of issues but he's like an eternal void of bad

Well yeah, almost all of them become terrible. Most of Kirito's friends have extremely short character arcs that end with them melting into the background. I wasn't comparing Asuna to what Kirito's other friends may have been in the past, I was comparing her to the homogeneous mass they all devolve into as the series progresses.
Can't wait for SAO3, the return of Kirito Sue.

He gets his ass beat into a coma if memory serves right.

Mothers Rosario showed Asuna can be an individual entity from the homogeneous mass imo.

Yupp..
One bad case of coma..

That was no surprise, the show has shown her to be immune to the Kirito-Sue virus from the start.
Actually to get into this some more because why not.
I went over before about styles of writing and serialization that Western Superhero comics and most Shonen manga both share.
Keep in mind manga never had a comics code like we did.
That thing forced pretty much all our comics to be superheroes only because that's what sold a lot, to kids mainly.
Where in Japan.
They never had that.
They just had Osamu Tezuka who started everything.
Shonen, Shojo, Seinen and Josei.
Porn...
Anyway.
Everyone just kind of took after him.
Shonen is only as big as it is because well again. They sell a lot. For many reasons that I have went over about before.
But the market and what sells is still more diverse.
Look at the top selling manga sometime.
Even of just the many Shonen titles.
You see stuff like Conan, Slam Dunk and Ippo are high up there. You would think it would be nothing but action battle/fantasy Shonen manga but nope.
And even in the here and now of ongoing years and their sales.
We have had stuff like FMA, Nana and Attack on Titan take 2nd spot next to One Piece. Hell it's always amazing when they do take it down by a few numbers in the sale charts. Tho the overall sales of all 3 series put together are not even half the number of overall One Piece sales.
Because One Piece is a giant that will never be taken down at this point.
To bring this home somewhat.
I like when Superhero comics are unique and take risks and think outside the box, even if it sells crap. I like Shonen manga that I like for pretty much the same reasons. Uniqueness and thinking outside the box.
And to end this post.
Everyone go read.
My Hero Academia.
It's pretty much a Superhero Shonen manga. And it pretty much took Naruto's spot in Shonen Jump. lol
Bit of a slow start, but I really like the style of it.

Well, I love Tiger & Bunny.
So I'll check it out.
Though the thing about Western comics is, it used to be more diverse.
Romance, Westerns, War, Horror, all used to be popular before the establishment of the Comics Code Authority (Which would be in place several years before Marvel told them to stick it).
They never really recovered after that so Superheroes lingered on...
And Archie.
But no one cares about Archie.
Though there is a bigger surge in horror over the past few years, thanks to The Walking Dead.
But I know horror has always been big with Manga. I know quite a few Uzumaki fans irl.
EPISODE 30 HAS BEEN REACHED!
Yeah the code sure did a number on comics.
And yeah.
Walking Dead was neat.
At first.
And Archie is amazing.
Damn you.
Archie always saves Western comics.
And he will never stop.
Saving them.
From evil.
And yeah Uzumaki is cool.
No Archie Comics' Licenses saved comics.
You read Megaman bro?
Great series.
I read everything.
So yes.
Anyway have to go eat now.
So see ya.
I almost had Puddi say bye for me.
But he forgot his BSN password.
Pray for him folks.
