You already know almost everyone will die by the end.

Well sure it is a battle to the death, but it is one thing being aware what it might end up as, and fully knowing something.

The mind usually like a to be funny like that. I don't know how many times I've pretty much guessed that a character will die but still go all "please don't die, please don't die". Knowing that someone dies no matter what takes away the suspension.

The 0.00001% chance that "insert character" might survive matter a great deal and removing even that would ruin quite a lot. That's why I'm really happy that everyone that know what will happen in both the second half of UBW and all of HF put EVERYTHING under a spoiler tag no matter how big or small the spoiler is.
