It comes down to A and B.

 

A ) Is Roberta's physical injuries actually necessary? - I think so, it makes the whole thing far more scarring. Remember that everyone really loses in that arc despite surviving. Suppose it's manga elitism or whateverthefuckyouwantocall it. There ARE improvements anime can do over the manga (like Bakuman cutting off that needlessly stupid arc and heading straight to the finale.) I think it was fitting, a price to pay for her sins and all that crap.

 

B ) Rock has always been misunderstood by almost every single person in the entire anime kingdom. You don't need to listen to OOC complaints, hell, look at Rebellion and Homura's case. How many f-ck heads screamed "OOC" to that?

You're spot on there for sure Sim. I mean, I've five hour speeched regarding Rebellion enough to set my stance there. I mean... I know folks will always have their own opinions on characters, I just get fairly frustrated when there's enough proof that something isn't OOC in the slightest, yet people still scream it from the rooftops. Madoka forbid characters actually evolve, right? :P 

 

I admit I actually was very surprised in how it ended, cause I had pretty much mentally set myself up for it to be a case of "This is going to end super badly." But yeah I'm exactly of the same mind as you with Roberta's injuries. It felt fitting all things considered since a huge point of the last OVA was commenting on whether or not this bloodbath for revenge was worth it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for good revenge stories, but having her walk away from all of it mostly unharmed? Can't say I'm terribly fond of that idea.
