HxH has two animes. 1998 and 2011.
1998 does its own thing and 2011 is the one that follows the manga.
I think 1999 (+OVA) follows the manga pretty closely too. You can still find videos of the dodgeball game from that version on youtube.
It just stops earlier because 1999.

I'm more a subs kind of guy, but considering how much praise the dub for Brotherhood gets, most likely I'll experience it that way.
